Considering the extreme severity of the Covid challenge and the increasing case numbers in Bangalore, a gated community in Whitefield conducted a camp for the 45+ category via a Drive Through contactless vaccination initiative.
This probably is a first of its kind being conducted by a Residents Association in Bangalore and possibly in India
The vaccination camp was held at Palm Meadows in RGHalli on Sat, May 8 and was organised by the MC/COVID Task Force team. The service was provided by BGS Gleneagles
Key features:
1. Safety and convenience – for healthcare workers, residents, CTF volunteers and organisers.
2. All the processes of registration for the drive were done online - tokens given, drive route with pre-planned stations, emergency response on standby.
We are always cautioned about the other, to be wary. But the stories we hear now tell & teach us otherwise.
Here is one such.
Story of a 75+ senior citizen, living alone in Bangalore, with a young care taker. No close relatives.
SC falls ill. Concerned neighbours contact niece & nephew who live out of state. Tests done, both SC & caretaker are positive. Nephew, an employee of Cisco, taps into the work volunteer network to arrange a bed.
Meanwhile, the saturation level starts dropping.
Niece manages to secure a bed. But how to get her there?!
Someone reaches out to WR, who then reaches out to @mercymission1 for an ambulance.
COVID19 Second Wave: Whitefield Rising Volunteer Effort
WR is a group of dedicated volunteers who come to do what they can, to help each other in times of need. Here are some of the things volunteers have put their heart and minds to do.
1. Assisted Whitefield Police to set up a Covid Care Centre (CCC) at Kadugodi
2. Real time verification of all the COVID links and information on tests, beds, plasma, drugs, ambulance service and many others that are being shared via social media.
For parents with young children - contingency planning
WR Advisory | May 1, 2021
Corona is devastating and many families have lost multiple members due to the infection. We are seeing many young people lose lives too.
For parents with young child - a recommendation.
Please make a plan for who will take care of your child/children if and when you fall sick. Identity family / friends in the community or in BLR, even if your child is suspected to have COVID and need clearance.
That means the caretaker should not have aging parents or co-morbidities and hence will not be in a position to offer this help.
IMP - have a conversation with family / friends as tough as it may be to have it. Have a back up plan in case first priority is no more.
