Trans rights, especially those of trans youth, are under attack in the United States. Here's a thread of today's updates. 🧵
Mississippi HB1099 has passed the House and moved onto the Senate. This bill would prevent incarcerated people from legally changing their names unless supported by a district attorney, sheriff, prison chaplin or the Commissioner of the Mississippi Dept of Corrections.
Virginia SB766 passed committee and is headed to the Senate floor for a vote. This bill would prevent trans girls from playing high school athletics. It does not specify how "biological sex" is to be determined, opening the door for sexual abuse.
Virginia SB20 also passed committee and is headed for a Senate vote. It would remove the statement from the Code of Virginia that states that each school board is required to have policies regarding trans students that are consistent with the VA Dept of Education's policies.
Tennessee introduced a new bill, SB2696, which would ban all trans-affirming medical care for minors, under which "minor" is defined as someone who has not both reached the age of 18 and Tanner's stage 5 development.
Tennessee introduced another new bill, SB2777, which would explicitly not require school professionals to use correct names or pronouns for trans students. It would also protect them from any legal cases of discrimination based on this.
Alabama HB266 was introduced and has been sent to the Judiciary Committee. This bill would ban trans-affirming medical care for minors, including puberty blockers.
Alabama also introduced SB184, which is a companion bill to HB266. This bill would also ban trans-affirming medical care for minors. These bills, if passed, would not only prevent minors from accessing lifesaving medical care, but forcibly detransition any transitioning youth.
It's not too late to stop these and other hateful bills. To learn about anti-trans legislation in your state and to contact your representatives, please visit transformationsproject.org to #StepUpForTransKids!

Trans rights (especially those of trans youth) are under attack in the United States. Here's a thread of today's updates. 🧵
Tennessee SB2153 was filed, adding another bill to our watchlist. This bill would require that school athletics be divided based on "biological sex", which is to be determined by birth certificates.
Arizona HB2161 was put onto the consent calendar for a vote on the House Floor. This bill would expand parental authority to the point that it would force schools to out children to their parents. This is a threat to all queer children.

Trans rights, especially those of trans youth, are under attack in the United States. Here's a (thankfully short) thread of today's updates. 🧵
South Dakota HB1005 passed its hearing and will be moving to the House Floor for a general vote. This is a youth bathroom bill that would regulate that school children only utilize bathrooms according to their "biological sex", increasing harassment of trans and GNC youth.
Indiana HB1041 passed the House and has moved onto the Senate. This is an anti-trans sports bill, requiring that students participate in athletics according to "biological sex", with no method described as to how "biological sex" is to be determined, potentially leading to abuse.
