Chris Christie was first to drop out in 2016 race, to endorse Trump. They had secret deal that CC will become Trump's Veep

That was scuttled by Manafort (Putin paid Manafort salary). Manafort (=Putin) demanded Trump take Pence instead. Trump had not even INTERVIEWED PENCE
Trump HATED Pence, hates to this day. When Pence came to NY with his wife to the big announcement that he will be Trump's VP, biggest day in Pence's career, Trump did not even take them to dinner! Pences had to eat at some Denny's or similar restaurant
But what was in it for Chris Christie?

Chris is quite sharp as a politician. CC saw, early in 2016, that Trump will win the GOP nomination. And EVERYBODY was sure Trump would lose to Hillary

Chris wanted to be Veep, so he would INHERIT the front-runner slot
Chris Christie has played the Maga base by making sure everybody knows CC was loyal to Trump and helped him in debate prep 2020 etc. But Chris ALSO was regularly critical of Trump, to prepare for the time AFTER Trump

CC is planning a run for President

Any midterm-election for the party that takes White House is a bad election year. So 2010 for Dems (Obama), 2018 for GOP (Trump) and 2022 for Dems (Biden)

If the GOP now mess up their chances by deciding to have a civil war - that HELPS US in a TOUGH YEAR

The civil war will not END this year 2022. Trump will still control enough of GOP into 2024, he can be the 2024 nominee if he wants. And the more he becomes pissed off about the party turning against Trump, the more he WANTS to run in 2024
