ULTIMATE KENNY PICKETT THREAD

Kenny Pickett played in 22 games from 2020-2021. Below I'll provide clips from almost every game highlighting positives and negatives about Pickett as a prospect.

2020 was Pickett's 3rd year as a starter. After watching it back, I'm not surprised he exploded in 2021.

You can tell he was on the verge with a number of plays he made in 2020. Let's dive in ⬇️

Pickett can be really effective in zone read. He has sneaky speed.

I think this is a really good throw that should/could be caught.

Pickett's first really good downfield throw off 2020. He looks like an NFL QB in the pocket.

Pickett's feet get a little happy here and he sails this ball over the middle. Dangerous throw.

I don't give QBs a whole lot of credit for wide open throws like this.

But I like the way he keeps his eyes downfield while climbing the pocket to find the wide open WR.

Just a yard too much on this one.

This should've been Pickett's 14th passing TD of the season.

Pickett driving the ball on a 10-yard out. Ball is thrown a little low.

Pickett throws this ball with some SERIOUS zip.

He looks to the TE Seam first before working back to the right for the dig.

Again, I love the zip on this ball. Good stuff by Pickett.

Another really good throw. This time while on the move. I like the improvisational skills to avoid the free blitzer.

This is a simple and well executed quick out on 3rd down. He has to get this ball in there before the outside zone corner can jump on the quick out. Simple but familiar NFL concept.

I think Pickett leaves the pocket prematurely on this play. He still manages to demonstrate good vision off schedule and complete the throw for a 3rd & 10 conversion.

This ball completely sails on Pickett. He misses by a lot.

Pickett needs to have better vision on this play. He's under heavy pressure and isn't expected that DB to be sitting on the crossing route coming into his area. Bad INT.

Pickett is fearless throwing over the middle.

Well designed play makes this is an easy throw for Pickett.

Pickett drives this ball for 20 yards. Should've been caught.

Pickett is late and inaccurate on this throw. He has a pretty wide stance while letting this one go.

Really good throw on the move. He gets antsy in the pocket but manages to keep the play alive.

Pickett looks faster than he's given credit for.

This is really impressive. He makes this throw from a very awkward position with a good amount of zip.

He gets some help from Addison (who is a stud) as this ball could've been intercepted.

Pickett has a good feel for the pocket. He does well to climb the pocket and find his checkdown.

The thread will continue tomorrow with the rest of the Pickett's 2020 season. Then on to 2021.

Did Pickett intentionally lead the WR underneath the safety or did he not put enough on this ball because of the pressure?

This INT get called back but it's still a poorly thrown ball that can't be placed this far inside. Hit your WR towards the sideline or nothing.

4th down and I love the awareness and elusiveness.

I have the same question on this throw as the earlier one. Is he intentionally stopping/flattening his WR or is he just not putting enough juice on the ball?

Pickett tries to lay this ball perfectly over the defender but he just underthrows it.

This is impressive ball placement.

Pickett moves the safety post-snap just enough to fit this ball in there.

Again, did he intentionally throw this back shoulder? My guess is yes but he could've placed it over the shoulder in the endzone.

I love this play. Pickett clearly sees the pressure arriving but stands tall in the pocket just long for his WR to clear the defender.

I like this throw. The defender just does a good job getting his head around to play the ball.

Pickett didn't get much help from his receivers in this game. I'm not sure how this is dropped.

I like the placement of this ball. Back shoulder so the safety doesn't have a shot at it.

This looks like a pass that needs to be caught. Pickett puts the ball away from the CB so only the WR has a shot at it.

This is a smooth play by Pickett. His 1st read isn't there. He doesn't drop his eyes while avoiding pressure and makes a good throw over top of the CB.

Make the first man miss, escape the pocket, keep your eyes up and find your checkdown. It doesn't need to be pretty when it works.

This is pretty impressive precision.

These are the NFL type of throws I love to see. The timing on this throw is beautiful.

This appears to be a catchable ball. I love the climbing up the pocket and delivery of this throw. Pickett passes the "NFL QB" eyeball test.

The INT looks really ugly at first but on replay you can see the WR slipped. Not sure it would've been completed either way but an INT should've been avoidable if the WR stays upright.

This ball is poorly placed. The ball should be in front of the RB. He may not have gotten the 1st but he would at least have a chance.

This is a beautiful throw. 45 yards on a rope. His receiver needs to catch this.

The accuracy on this throw.

Pickett won't wow you with his rushing numbers. But his legs are definitely an element of his game that needs to be respected by the defense.

3rd down. Pressure coming. Pickett keeps his eyes downfield and gives himself just enough extra time to find the wide open corner route.

This is Pickett's first game back after missing 2 games with an ankle injury.

Here's a strong throw that is well timed on 3rd down. If I'm being nitpicky, the ball could be towards the outside shoulder a bit more.

This a tough throw that requires more touch. If you add more touch you also need to put the ball towards over the right shoulder.

Just a bad miss downfield.

Not exactly sure what's going on with Pickett's drop here but he delivers a nice ball.

Pickett leaves the pocket unnecessarily and is a late making this throw. He gets away with it even with the ball being severely underthrown. He made it a much tougher throw than it needed to be.

Even on a banged up ankle Pickett can make plays with his legs.

Whew. Bad miss here. Could be the banged up ankle.

Pickett is late and then high on this play. Should've been a TD.

Here's a well-timed throw over the middle.

Pickett gets completely fooled by the coverage here and throws a way-too-easy interception.

I like that Pickett put this ball on the back shoulder instead of leading his receiver right to the safety. Assuming that was intentional.

Turning a potential 10 yard loss into a 0 yard gain is a win in my book. He does this will still playing on a banged up ankle.

Pickett is just clearly not right to start this game. He makes the right read and throw here but puts it behind the receiver. This play also could've been a TD.

Pickett starts to find his rhythm in the 2nd quarter with this dart over the middle.

This is a really good back shoulder throw on 3rd down that needs to be caught.

PA boot. Nobody's open. Survey the field. Hit the comeback along the sideline.

1st quarter Pickett and 2nd quarter Pickett are two completely different players in this game. Good play here.

This throw is crazy and reckless but it works. Look at the body position when he let's this go from the endzone angle.

This is a dime. He gets his feet back under him rather than throwing from a sloppy base.

Pickett needs to be very careful about sailing balls over the middle.

Pickett fades back in the pocket which I don't love but then makes a good throw after escaping the rush.

This Clemson game isn't a completely fair eval for Pickett. He wasn't good. But he was getting ZERO help.

This is a really well placed ball. The WR needs to make this catch.

An Interception that isn't on the QB at all.

2 things.

1) For a guy with small hands, Pickett holds on to this ball through a full speed throwing motion.

2) I would've loved to see him make the throw off schedule. It was nearly another interception.

This is an example of how overmatched Pittsburgh's offensive line was all day. 3 man rush with a CB blitz and Pickett has no time in the pocket.

I like the way Pickett climbs the pocket while keeping his eyes downfield.

This ball needs to be put towards the sideline and it's an easy completion.

#21 plays this so well. He never even back pedals. It's like he knew what was coming. Pickett throws it right to him.

Pittsburgh tries to get creative but it backfires. Pickett should've just taken the sack here.

Pickett doesn't get enough on this throw to the flat.

Pickett has good speed when leaving the pocket.

No chance this was the correct dropback for Pickett.

This is a good throw that #10 decides he wants no parts of.

Pickett has good eyes and feet on this play.

There's #21 jumping the underneath routes again. Pickett didn't do much wrong on this play. #21 just played it well again.

This looks like a pass that needs to be caught. I like a poise under pressure to deliver the ball knowing you'll take a hit.

Not sure how Pickett fits this one in there.

Clemson's DBs had no respect for Pittsburgh's WRs. #31 keeps his eyes on Pickett the whole way and #11 runs a horrible route.

Pickett wasn't good in this game, but he had no help and the whole team was completely overmatched.

Final game of 2020, Pickett is showing his ability to be accurate while on the move.

Good eyes to start right and work back left. Good feet and good timing.

No idea why Pickett doesn't throw to the TE on the corner. He appears to be wide open. This should've been an easy TD.

You hate to see this miss. Pickett's feet get too happy. Gotta make this throw.

This is a well-timed, well thrown dart that should be a completion for a solid gain. Instead, it's Pickett's 2nd INT of the season off a dropped pass.

#44 plays this perfectly. Pickett thinks he can fit this ball in there but he's wrong and nearly throws an INT.

This throw is way off.

I like what Pickett can do once he leaves the pocket. And I like that he doesn't just remain a sitting duck in the endzone.

THIS is a throw that gets you excited. It might be the best throw Pickett made in all of 2020. You can't throw this more perfectly.

This is the second time Pickett made a good play/throw while standing in his own endzone. Sure, this ball could be a few inches out front but it's a perfectly catchable ball.

Pickett has surprisingly good contact balance.

This is another really good throw that's exciting to see from a future NFL QB.

Poor footwork doesn't allow Pickett to get this ball all the way there.

Another overthrow on a would-be TD. It looks like Addison doesn't fully explode out of the fake which could also possibly be a factor for the missed connection.

Can't tell if the ball just slips out of Pickett's hand or if it bumps his thigh. Either way, he can't let this happen. Heads up play to knock the ball out of bounds though.

Pickett missed an opportunity on this play. He should stepped up and reset in the pocket after avoiding the pressure.
Instead, he put himself back in harms way then made an I'll advised throw because he locked onto one guy.

Meanwhile, his checkdown is wide open.

That's a wrap on Pickett's 2020 season. Definitely ups and downs. But he did show glimpses of what was to come in 2021 when he took a massive step forward. 2021 clips will be added to the thread shortly.
