I have been vague about the new Shopify App I am working on, partly because the idea was still shaping up.

After speaking to a lot of individuals in the Shopify ecosystem, my idea is finally getting concrete now.

Here's what I am building,

I have always been fascinated with the concept of bringing all the customer data at one place to make it possible to know the customer better.

(Here is a sneak peak to a rough customer view UX I am working on)
A single customer view to see their website sessions, products viewed, orders placed, communications sent to them, support tickets, their loyalty points etc. Literally everything that's possible!

and make this data available to create segments & send personalized communication
To achieve this goal of bringing all customer data to one place I either have to build an app for each customer touchpoint or integrate with an existing market leader.

Both of which is not going to be easy.
But it's a problem that I can solve by breaking it into smaller parts and gradually connecting each piece together to finally achieve my final goal.

So where do I start?
The 1st step would be to convert Visitors to Customers while keeping track of their website sessions.

The built in customer login/signup flow on Shopify is quite basic and there are no market leaders providing a go-to solution for it.
The recent Shopify Trends reports suggests how important it is to improve LTV of a customer with the increasing advertising cost.

It's more than ever important now to get visitors to create an account on your store and make them part of your community.
So the first module of my eCommerce CRM tool is to build a powerful yet simple sign up / login mechanism that encourages more store visitors to create an account on store.
Here's how I plan to achieve it -
- A Popup that supports email, mobile/otp, FB and Google.
- That can be triggered on page load, exit, add to cart etc
- Auto create customer account on checkout

All this while tracking visitor sessions before and after creating an account.
Once I convert a visitor into customer, the 2nd step is to know the customer better.

This would require integration with other apps to capture as many data points as possible for a given customer (email/mob)

Some apps would have APIs available, others would require partnerships
The 3rd steps would be to use this data about the customer to personalize the storefront and also make this data available back to marketing apps so they are able to use them to build segments and send personalized communication to Customers.
It is going to take a lot of time to build this but I am hoping to release the first module of customer authentication by next month.
