We take a small but important step in developing tools for #OpenScience and more #reproducible strain engineering.
But this is only the beginning, we invite folks working in #syntheticbiology, #engineeringbiology & #biotechnology to engage with us and suggest how we can improve these tools. They are still imperfect, but we can build on this and engineer biology in a better way.
I believe that by slowly but surely shifting towards #OpenScience and more #reproducible strain engineering we can also help address important issues such as engineered microbial (and other organisms) traceability, fair access and benefit-sharing, etc.
We very much thank the referees who have put our feet to the fire, have helped us think more clearly & develop a better roadmap of where to go next. We are especially thankful to the managing senior editor @rosscloney for the dedication and guidance throughout.
And last but not least, these kinds of long term projects are very difficult, if not impossible, to do without long term funding. In our case, we are indebted to the @EPSRC and @RAEngNews
