When William Henry Harrison ๐บ๐ธ joined the military, the man who signed off on his commission was none other than......
George Washington ๐บ๐ธ.
Washington was a friend of Harrison's deceased father, Benjamin Harrison, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. #POTUS ๐๐
William Henry Harrison's ๐บ๐ธ political legacy is his passion for getting federal aid for disabled veterans and surviving families of those killed in war.
He would even invite to dinner the widows and children of his dead comrades #POTUS ๐๐
William Henry Harrison ๐บ๐ธ and his grandson, Benjamin Harrison ๐บ๐ธ.
The only time a grandfather and grandson were President. #POTUS ๐๐
One of the angles pushed by the William Henry Harrison ๐บ๐ธ and John Tyler ๐บ๐ธ ticket in the 1840 Election was their heritage: Both of their fathers fought "side by side in maintaining the rights of their country in the days of the Revolution."
- John Tyler ๐บ๐ธ #POTUS ๐๐
William Henry Harrison ๐บ๐ธ was one of the first presidential candidates to go out and give campaign speeches and hold rallies. #POTUS ๐๐
Due to constant attacks by Democrats about his age and health, Whig leaders asked William Henry Harrison's ๐บ๐ธ doctor to release a public report on his health and fitness - a Presidential first!
The doctor declared him to have "bodily vigor as good as most men his age." #POTUS ๐
The cover of the 1840 Whig Party booklet was able to be torn off & posted for election purposes. Promoting William Henry Harrison and John Tyler ๐บ๐ธ, it also showed his opponent, President Martin Van Buren ๐บ๐ธ.
Behind Van Buren stands former President Andrew Jackson ๐บ๐ธ #POTUS ๐๐
William Henry Harrison ๐บ๐ธ and his horse "Whitey."
John Quincy Adams ๐บ๐ธ wasn't a fan, apparently calling Whitey "a mean horse." #POTUS ๐๐
The โSeal of the Presidentโ during the administrations of Martin Van Buren ๐บ๐ธ, William Henry Harrison ๐บ๐ธ, John Tyler, and Zachary Taylor ๐บ๐ธ #POTUS ๐๐
William Henry Harrison ๐บ๐ธ was the only president who studied to become a medical doctor #POTUS ๐๐
โThe broad foundation upon which our Constitution rests being the peopleโa breath of theirs having made, as a breath can unmake, change, or modify itโit can be assigned to none of the great divisions of government but to that of democracy.โ
- William Henry Harrison ๐บ๐ธ #POTUS ๐๐

โTheodore Rooseveltโs ๐บ๐ธ official Presidential portraitโ

One might say the story began when Thรฉobald Chartran painted this amazing portrait of First Lady Edith Roosevelt
Theodore Roosevelt ๐บ๐ธ was so blown away by its grace and elegance that he wanted one for himself. Chartarn agreed and came to Washington DC to do it
#POTUS โฌ๏ธ
The problemโฆis that Theodore Roosevelt ๐บ๐ธ isnโt the most cooperative subject and - if you can believe it - wasnโt always the easiest to work with!
Other portrait artists before Chartarn told stories of Roosevelt being problematic as a subject for portrait painting

Our story begins at a horribly hot July 4th celebration and stone setting ceremony for the Washington Monument - which was newly under construction at the time
Present for the festivities were George Washington Parke Custis as well as President Zachary Taylor ๐บ๐ธ
#POTUS โฌ๏ธ
As was previously mentioned:
IT WAS HOT that day
๐ฅตRidiculously hot๐ฅต
Zachary Taylor ๐บ๐ธ, tired and sweaty, chugged water then returned to the White House
โHe was, to all appearances, sound in health and in excellent spirits.โ

Happy Birthday Zachary Taylor ๐บ๐ธ born #OTD 1784!
Zachary Taylor was the first President to hold no prior elected office
#POTUS ๐๐
Zachary Taylor is 1 of 8 Presidents to have come from Virginia
The others:
George Washington
Thomas Jefferson
James Madison
James Monroe
William Henry Harrison
John Tyler
Woodrow Wilson
All were slave owners except Wilson (he was born before slavery was outlawed)
#POTUS ๐๐
Zachary Taylor's ๐บ๐ธ horse "Old Whitey" was so popular that when he was grazing on the White House lawn people would sneak up and pluck hairs from his tail as souvenirs
Chester A. Arthur ๐บ๐ธ died #OTD (1886) of Brightโs Disease in New York City - one of four Presidents who died in NYC:
- James Monroe
- Chester Arthur
- Herbert Hoover
- Richard Nixon
Enjoy this brief thread about the death of one of Americaโs most underrated Presidents
#POTUS โฅ๏ธ
In the middle of his presidency, Chester Arthur ๐บ๐ธ was diagnosed with the deadly Brightโs Disease - which would eventually kill him
The press picked up on the news but Arthurโs administration denied the story and the American public forgot about itโฆuntil he died
#POTUS โฌ๏ธ
Suffering from Brightโs Disease, Chester Arthur ๐บ๐ธ did everything he could to indiscreetly NOT win the 1884 nomination - knowing he probably wouldnโt survive another term in office
โGovernor Cleveland ๐บ๐ธ, from the little I know of him, has impressed me favorablyโ

As most people know, John F. Kennedy ๐บ๐ธ was assassinated on November 22, 1963 in Dallas, Texas
After he was shot he was immediately driven to Parkland Hospital where he was pronounced dead
#POTUS โฌ๏ธ
No autopsy was performed on JFKโs ๐บ๐ธ body in Dallas, Texas
At the request of First Lady Jackie Kennedy the autopsy was to be done at Bethesda Naval Hospital (pictured) near Washington, DC, as JFK was a Navy veteran
Happy 150th Birthday to Herbert Hoover ๐บ๐ธ born #OTD 1874 in West Branch, Iowa - the first President born west of the Mississippi River.
Enjoy this Herbie thread!
#POTUS ๐๐
At 9 years old, Herbert Hoover ๐บ๐ธ and his 2 siblings became orphans when their mother died. Herbert ("Bertie") was sent to live in Oregon with his Uncle John and his siblings were sent elsewhere

Herbert Hoover ๐บ๐ธ was in Chinaโs Boxer Rebellion (1900)
With Chinese Boxer rebels attempting to expel foreigners, Hoover organized building barricades while under attack
His wife Lou helped the wounded.
They're credited w/saving many Chinese children caught in the chaos
