Red Flags in SOPs 🚩🚩

⁃ Writing without purpose/passion

⁃ Trying to blackmail the reader (My mother & I lived under the bridge to ensure I went to school). This doesn't work again.

⁃ Spending time writing irrelevant things that don't show why the school should select you.
⁃ Ignoring your experience and the impacts you made.

⁃ Having a disorganized and unaligned document. Most SOP's don't have any paragraph. It is not a good writing style.
⁃ Not talking about the “Why.” There are so many Why’s you should address - Why Bioinformatics? Why the University of Toronto? Why is it important for you?

⁃ Stating unrealistic goals. (I want to get a PhD because I will change the world/home country). Be realistic, please!
