.@Sen_JoeManchin, on WVMetroNews radio, again sounds the alarm on rising inflation, calling it a 7.5% tax hike on Americans; he tells the Fed to stop “pussyfooting around” and take some actions to bring it down.
.@Sen_JoeManchin says he’s still willing to use reconciliation to raise taxes on corporations and the wealthy, let Medicare negotiate drug prices, lift the Social Security payroll tax cap; says he’s fine with some spending, like climate. His priority: must bring down the debt.
As for which specific taxes he’s willing to raise, Manchin repeats much of what he said here: 25% corporate rate, close carried interest, 28% capital gains. More: nbcnews.com/politics/congr…
Addendum: There’s a Byrd rule problem with making changes to Social Security in reconciliation.
On Democrats’ challenges with Manchin-backed taxes:
Raise the corporate rate? Can’t do that, Sinema is opposed. End carried interest? Sinema is an obstacle. 28% capital gains tax? Menendez is not a fan. Broad Medicare power to negotiate prices? Sinema and Menendez are resistant.

Rep. Adam Kinzinger tells @Morning_Joe that the RNC's censure and depiction of Jan. 6 is "a defining moment" for the Republican Party. He responds to Kevin McCarthy: "He is the weakest leader that has ever, frankly, existed in that position."
Kinzinger says RNC members didn't oppose the resolution bc they're "scared to death of the mob."
"RNC deserves every aspect of backlash that's going to come down on it. And this is a defining moment in American politics...Are you for authoritarianism? Are you against democracy?"
Rep. @AdamKinzinger says he doesn't take the RNC resolution personally: "I don't get the hurt feelings that Donald Trump gets on daily basis."
"Donald Trump literally just admitted to a coup attempt, and you're gonna turn your fire on Liz and Adam?"
.@LindseyGrahamSC is pushing hard for one of Biden’s Supreme Court prospects. “Michelle Childs is awesome… She's incredibly well-qualified.” He tells me he’d be “very inclined” to vote for her and predicts “a handful” of GOP votes if she’s the nominee. nbcnews.com/politics/supre…
.@SenWhitehouse says he doubts Mitch McConnell and GOP leaders want to start a “war” over SCOTUS vacancy after they “captured” the Court 6-3. “Once you've got the burglar successfully in the house, you don't necessarily want to cause a lot of attention.” nbcnews.com/politics/supre…
Manchin laments the state of the Senate today: "I don't know what happened to the good old days. But I can tell you they're not here now."
Joe Manchin says he's proud to cosponsor the Freedom To Vote Act and John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, but he — again — emphasizes his opposition to weakening the current 60-vote threshold.
"I have not — and will never — waver on this."
Manchin contends that slashing the 60-vote rule would pour "fuel on the fire of political whiplash and dysfunction that is tearing our nation apart."
