I know it’s only Thursday but let’s check-in on Ottawa’s nightlife.

Ottawa’s second hottest club, Wellington St, is closed tonight for renos.

They’ve added a VIP deck with a Hill view, and have stockpiled Ottawa’s hottest accessory, jerry cans #cdnpoli #ottnews
Ottawa’s hottest club, Rideau and Sussex, is also closed tonight but some changes will need to be made before the party starts tomorrow night.

Truckers started parking like a jigsaw puzzle at that intersection today, presumably to make it hard to get towed #cdnpoli #ottnews
With no clubs open tonight, folks had nothing to do but wander the streets.

Speaking of joints, I stopped by the closest pot shop to the convoy on my way home

The cashier told me they’d never been busier but they’ve been hassled a bit by protestors

When I went in, the security guard at the door turned unmasked people away cause they didn’t have ID

Protestors have ripped down the barriers step up at the War Memorial.

They were up because people were using the memorial as a toilet and jumping on the tomb of the unknown soldier #cdnpoli #ottnews
The people who took it down seem to be a group of veterans.

They were all called up to the front to stand right at the front of the monument #cdnpoli #ottnews

Friends, it’s time to check-in on Ottawa’s nightlife!

As I reported yesterday, Ottawa’s second hottest club, Wellington St, was undergoing renos but they’ve gone bigger than I could imagine

They’ve added a massive big screen behind the DJ, to accompany the VIP deck #ottnews
This goes without saying, but Wellington St has everything.

Postal service, ear protection and even satellite TV.

It’s raining tonight but that hasn’t stopped Ottawa newest club, O’Connor’s, from opening!

O’Connor’s has been functioning as a daycare normally, and even got a visit from the police yesterday to offer the parents help from child services. #cdnpoli #ottnews

Earlier tonight the police cleared out all the firewood and put out the fires on Kent st at a camp set up on the street.

I was there when this happened and I’d say about 30 officers were there to clear it out #cdnpoli #ottnews
When the second fire was put out, the top cop and main protestor were talking

You can hear the cop tell the protestors that there is “no issue with propane fuel” and “he’s just trying to help”

Surprised to hear the police are cool with propane fires in the street #cdnpoli
Once the fires were out, the cops moved to clearing a large pile of firewood out. A few protestors tried to throw the wood away but the head of the camp got them to stop.

They brought in two city pickup truck to haul it all away #cdnpoli #ottnews

The #TruckerConvoy2022 protesters harassed staff at an Ottawa homeless shelter for food today and staff had to give them food to get them to leave.

Ottawa has a sizeable homeless population, not enough shelter spaces and it was -30 today. #ottnews #cdnpoli
In the Zello channel for the truckers, one guy says they’re basically homeless cause no one will feed them.

There is a Loblaws an eight minute walk from the Shepards. They’d have sold them food, if they were willing to put a mask on to come in the store #ottnews
I live down here, so I see these homeless folks a lot.

Since the pandemic, I’d say an already large homeless population has doubled, with decreased supports.

When they manage to get a few bucks, they put their mask on, go to the Loblaws and buy some food.

It’s not hard!

The CPC have released their costed platform. Here are the key details.

Over the next 5 years, they’re proposing $78 B in new spending, nearly the exact same as the LPC

They plan to save $27B by cancelling programs like $10 a day daycare, so the net total is $51 B in spending
The big ticket items are $24 B for doubling the Canada Worker Benefit over 5 years, $13 B to stimulate business investment and $9.7 B for fiscal stabilization. #cdnpoli
Two key items that didn't have costing, the Personal Low Carbon Savings account and their promise to bring high-speed Internet to everyone in Canada by 2025. #cdnpoli

NEW - On August 9, fully vaccinated Americans and PR, living in the US, will be allowed into Canada without a quarantine period

On September 7, Canada intends to open up to the rest of the world, allowing people fully vaccinated with approved to shots in

To be let into Canada, a traveller needs to have finished their vaccine series with either Pfizer, Moderna, J&J or AZ, 14 days prior to arrival and get a negative test within 72 hours of arrival.

Sorry to everyone who got Sputnik or Sinopharm, you won’t be let in #cdnpoli
Travellers need to put their vaccination proof into the ArriveCAN app or website and if they don’t, they won’t be let into the country.

If your proof of vaccination isn’t in English or French, you’ll need a certified translation so the border guards can read it #cdnpoli
