A quick round-up of this weekend's events. 1) We are seeing more equipment being moved to the border with Ukraine. Clearly, Russians are preparing 4-5 staging areas from Belarus to Crimea. 2) We are seeing more aircraft and helos coming into Belarus and Western Russia.
In a typical fashion, Russians are using reserve airbases (Luninets and Novoozernoe) to move airframes closer to the frontline (this actually also refers to land forces ->easy to supply with helos and aircraft).
This week Russia's reportedly to start its Grom strategic nuclear force exercise. It'll test all legs of Russia’s nuclear triad and probably theatre-range systems. If an attack on Ukraine happens soon, the exercise could be used as a deterrent against Ukrainian or NATO's response
This will be a rough week.

Courtesy of @capellaspace, @CSBiggers and I took a look at imagery of areas in Western Russia that have recently been under cloud cover. There are some important changes in Russian force compositions and their locations. Firstly, Yelnya is being drawdown.
Secondly, we are seeing a massive influx of vehicles and personnel in Kursk where elements of the 6th CAA are stationed. Subunits from the 9th Artillery Brigade may have arrived, along with another BTG. We are now waiting for Iskanders and probably guests from the High North.
Probably new presence in Filativka in Crimea. The village is located some 20km from the border with Ukraine. Need to observe this area closely to see whether addition units move in.
A short thread about recent developments.
Slightly less than two weeks ago Russia activated multiple BTGs from the Eastern Military District. Today they started arriving to Western Russia, and more importantly, to Belarus. I listed Belarus as a possible destination on the blog.
My current BTG count stands at 54. (@KofmanMichael has 60). The EMD forces will push my figure to 64. This means that since the movement of forces began (October), the Russian presence as calculated by BTGs increased from around 26 to 64. That’s a 2.5-fold increase.
To place this into a different perspective, and to (perhaps over)simply things, a Russian motor rifle division has 6 BTGs. 64 BTGs translate into 10 divisions. I am quite certain the movement hasn't finished yet.
