NL and the Federal Government have signed a term sheet agreement on Muskrat Falls rate ministration. Details are very similar to what was announced last July $5.2 billion restructuring #nlpoli
The goal is still the same. Keeping rates below 14.7 cents (instead of going to 23 cents) is still the goal. In the first year alone there’s about $500 million going into reducing rates #nlpoli
A chunk of this money (around $200 million) is money the federal government receives from Hibernia and it’s turning it over to the province to pay for electricity.
The province is also giving up some revenue for they money it put in to find construction #nlpoli
The agreement is more than a principle it’s a reality says the premier. He says this lets the province move out from the “long dark shadow of muskrat falls” #nlpoli
Seamus O’Regan says it’s unsettling to see what was unfolding the last two weeks in Ottawa. It’s stressful
He says the people saying hateful things may be loud but they’re few #nlpoli
O’Regan says today is the culmination of 6 year of work. Says this has been the biggest issue for him since he was elected #nlpoli
The term sheet on Muskrat Falls refinancing is officially signed #nlpoli
The premier says he won’t provide details about why the head of @NLCHItweets was removed calling it a personnel mater. Wouldn’t comment on whether it’s connected with last fall’s cyber attack
Seamus O’Regan says there was an emergency cabinet meeting last night and caucus meeting this morning on Ottawa protests
He says everyone is frustrated and tired. “Some of this isn’t surprising” #nlpoli
Is anything related to this Muskrat Falls deal tied to off shore development? Emphatic no from the premier and O’Regan #nlpoli

There are road washouts on the Trans Canada highway and it will take more than a week to reconnect, so how do CBC journalists get home? You take a ferry to another province of course. To get to St. John’s I’m headed to Sydney NS
Because my self and two colleagues from Radio Canada have a rental car we can drive to Halifax and fly back to St. John’s. It’s a 22 hour journey but it’s doable! My colleague @GarrettBarry isn’t so lucky
First it’s a 7:30 long crossing from Port aux Basques to North Sydney. Then Garrett gets to wait 10 hours, for a 16 hour crossing to Argentia, then a 3 hour drive to Gander. That’s a more than 36 hour trip for him to get home, leave Thursday night and get home Saturday afternoon
A little thread on the kindness of strangers in rural Newfoundland. With the road washed out people in Port aux Basques have realized that my colleagues and I from CBC are stuck here and want to make us feel welcome, even when they’re dealing with a once in a century storm 1/n
It started this morning while @GarrettBarry and I were setup doing live reports for CBC News Network. A guy in a truck stopped and thought we looked rain. He showed up with coffee and an invite to his house where he had the wood stove going and we’d warm up in no time! 2/n
The next offers came when I was picking up a a few groceries. A couple of women recognized me and said if we needed a nice meal, just put the word out and we’d have no shortage of invitations (perhaps they didn’t like the looks of the pasta and sauce I was buying just incase) 3/n
