1/25 🧵The joint budget meeting between Loudoun County School Board and Board of Supervisors was better than the Real Housewives at a dinner party.

If you missed it, there were some sparks flying between Supervisor Turner and Supervisor Kushner
2/25 after Kushner took Ziegler to task for his….well, for EVERYTHING.

At first, Zig clammed up after his dressing down by Kershner and declined his invitation to respond to him when given the opportunity.
3/25 But then, Turner swooped in to attack the “Trump loving Kershner” (said that or something similar), as Chair Randall tried to silence Turner with many WHOA-WHOA-WHOAS. It was to no avail, as Turner was determined to have his say while giving “the hand” to his Chair.
4/25 Randall took a moment to rebuke Turner (you know she was PIIISSED!), telling him that Zig had an opportunity to respond to Kushner but chose to abstain. That, somehow triggered Zig—you know his mental health and all— and in a combative tone aimed at Randall,
5/25 defended his decision not to speak, positioning himself as a martyr while accusing Kushner of staging “this ambush” and of inviting all the media there to witness his pre-planned speech.
6/25 He said something to the effect of “he would gladly take the position as ‘lightening rod’ if it means doing the right thing and protecting the privacy of students…and there are only 200 or so loud and upset parents,” he insisted.
7/25 Poor Zig wants to be recognized for the great job he is doing. He is so misunderstood and everyone is being mean to him.

Chair Randall responded to Zeigler by assuring him that she wasn’t criticizing him for
8/25 not responding, but was reprimanding the very naughty Supervisor Turner, who was also giving softball questions to Ziegler regarding the budget all night.

Fear not, Ziegler’s “team” had his back.
9/25 Sheridan quickly jumped in to defend her friend and respected colleague, Dr. Ziegler. Chair Morse took some of his time at the mic to console the visibly upset Ziegler, with words of support. They will definitely be going in for the weepy hugs after the meeting.
10/25 But this was not the only spicy exchange, Chair Randall set the stage early in the meeting by making it clear that the School Board misled the BOS when they asked for an increase in budget last year in upwards of $800k to cover Supervisors Briskman’s suggestion of
11/25 eliminating sports fees in the name of Equity. After promising to use the budget for this purpose, the money was added to the already agreed upon budget…with a warning that if the money wasn’t spent as promised she (Randall) would remember at the
12/25 meeting the following year (which is now).

If you are thinking that the School Board absolutely did not use the money as promised, you’d be exactly right!! Ummm, who didn’t see that coming? Even the disgraced former school board member, Beth Barts, chastised the
13/25 BOS on social media about having no power over how the SB allocates the budget.

Then there was Serotkin…who thought it a good idea to mock Supervisor Briskman in a RECORDED meeting, as he voted to allocate that money to a purpose other than for what it was promised.
14/25 And wouldn’t ya know, Randall watched that video FOUR TIMES because she couldn’t believe her eyes and ears. At least that is what she told the room full of participants, citizens and all of the media.
15/25 She tucked that little nugget in her pocket for later use…and she took that bad boy out and used it tonight against the Board, particularly toward Serotkin.

You can count on Randall to keep her promises….she surly remembered the Board’s unkept promise
16/25 and didn’t hold back about their little fib either. With Zig at the helm would you really expect truth?? Randall didn’t stop there with the wrist slapping. Next, she called out Serotkin for trash talking Supervisor Briskman,
17/25 scolding him before telling him to apologize to Briskman. He did not.

Chair Morse jumped in to reprimand Chair Randall about speaking about things other than the budget. Randall basically said you are in MY house and I will say what I please. RESPECT, girl!!
18/25 Then there was the newest member of the Board, who never misses the chance to announce that he is the oldest guy in the room, Tom Marshall. Okay, Captain Obvious! Tom was wearing his poor fitting mask well under his nose. Tsk.Tsk.
19/25 (Randall showed her generosity when she offered to buy him a new mask). He took a turn at the mic, using his time to reprimand parents for their bad behavior during Public Comments at School Board meetings.
20/25 He thinks these frustrated and dismayed parents are pretty awful and unjustified in their positions. Can’t we all just get along?? And you all thought he was sleeping up there on the dais…which is where he may have thought he was tonight …because what does that have to do
21/25 with this budget meeting!?!

Regarding the budget… Zig wants a 6%+ increase in the budget claiming inflation, there are more kids in school, and get this… LCPS was named as one of the best places to work. Mmm-hmm.
22/25 The School Board has a really bad habit of thinking everyone is stupid and putting themselves in the position to be corrected with real data and receipts. Haven’t they heard, #FactsMatter?
23/25 The well prepared BOS pointed out that LCPS expects to lose 900 employees at the end of the year and the number of kids enrolled is not an increase when you look at the delta and consider all the kids that dropped out and haven’t come back.
24/25 Plus, why in the world do they need $2.2M dedicated to E-sports?? Randall wants Zig to get back to her on that!

Definitely tune in to the next joint meeting where they will continue to discuss the budget… and don’t forget popcorn. @iandprior @LCPSDoBetter @LarryOConnor

2/13 Please know that while our schools may continue to state that there is a mask mandate, the Governor’s EO gives us the option to not comply lawfully.

Write letters to your Principals, Boards and Superintendents and tell them to #FreeTheirFaces.

1/ 🔥🔥🔥🔥HELP SPREAD THE WORD AND DEMAND SCHOOL BOARDS #FREETHEIRFACES. Please Retweet. 🔥🔥🔥

Here is a link to the actual Execurive Order rescinding the mask mandate effective Jan 24. ImageImageImage
2/The school boards and superintendence across the commonwealth of Virginia are going to use Senate Bill 1303 to fight us in resending the mask mandate. They are going to use the wording in that bill to say their hands are tied and they can not #FREETHEIRFACES
3/In your letter you must use every bit of information to tell them why SB1303 does not apply to masking and why it hurts children.

Understand that the CDC does not mandate, but recommends.

SB1303 says “maximal extent practicable”. This is a judgement call.
