Quoting old tweets from Mar 14- right after Ukrainian revolution of Feb 14. That time Maidan revolution led to ouster of Viktor Yankovich and the start of what has now become a full blown crisis in Ukraine but genesis of this crisis in truer sense goes back to 2000s! Image
Lot of people are talking about Chernobyl as a reason but fact remains that Chernobyl has always been used as a lever in Ukraine to precipitate a crisis or justify one. Psychological damage caused by this incident of 86 is so huge that it is easy to create a narrative around it
But in reality Ukraine has, from early 90s has been a sort of a quagmire in which this state has been sinking thanks to its location that this country’s politicians has been leveraging to play on the Russian- NATO fault line.
Form 1991 until 2014, the Ukraine’s politics has been dominated by two Leonids- Leonid Kravchuk and Leonid Kuchma and later on two Viktors- Viktor Luschenko and Viktor Yanukovych. One joker in the pack so to speak was Yulia Tymoshenko-who Co led Orange Revolution of 2004
Chernobyl has been dominating Ukraine’s politics and narrative ever since this disaster struck in April 86 and even post soviet breakup. Infact this was one reason that led Leonid Kravchuk to sign a deal with Bush senior to give up Ukrainian nukes in return of Eco assistance
Kravchuk’s administration could not stop economic crisis from unfolding in Ukraine and crisis following privatisation of Black Sea Shipping Co- worlds largest then- led to his ouster and replacement by next Leonid - Leonid Kuchma joc.com/maritime-news/…
Kuchma remained in office for good 10 years and tried to strike a fine balance between his country’s relationship with Russia and its desire for integration with EU to leverage European Union economic benefits…but he cudnt stop corruption & was accused to killing journos
It was under Kuchma that Ukraine tried to sell key military technologies and arm deals with rogue states and those opposed to US like Saddam Hussain. A scandal termed as Cassette scandal broke out and Kuchma was left with no option but to give up office but not without struggle
Struggle to retain power. However, his own Prime Ministers: the two Viktors- Yuschenko (removed as PM in 2001) and Yankovych (served as PM under Kuchma until 05). Both became challengers to Kuchma’s presidency and fought much infamous 2004 elections
The electoral fraud of 2004 led to what is called Orange Revolution- Co led by Yuschenko and Yulia Tymashenko. Repoll was ordered and Yuschenko was termed as winner defeating Yanukovich. Kuchma’s effort to improve ties with Russia met with an abrupt end….
Yuschenko’s tenure was marked by confusion and pursuing a policy of hostility with Russia. He appointed Yulia Tymoshenko as his PM, removed her and at one time he even appointed Yanukovich. But his popularity nosedived and he became most hated leader in Ukraine
Yanukovich came to power in 2010 as president. He was considered pro Russia and he did try to placate Russia by signing Kharkiv pact that allowed Russia to retain its blacksea fleet lease until 2042; he even refused to blame Russia for Holodomor & made Russia 2nd language
Yulia Tomoshenko, who he defeated in 2010 & many others remained his vocal opponents for pro Russian tilt & he was ousted following maidan revolution -that started in 2013 and continued until Feb 2014;it ended with the ouster of Yanukovich and replacement by Poroshenko in next elx
Poroshenko changed Yanukovich policies but he lost 2019 elections to comedian turned Volodymyr Zelenskyy who is current Ukrainian president overseeing the current crisis.
Coming back to current crisis; genesis of whole issue lies in the fact that Ukraine has become a football b/w Russia and western powers with both vying to control politics and their policies. Corrupt politicians of Ukraine have used this rivalry to the hilt, oscillating b/w two!
Russia sees desire of Ukrainian politicians to use NATO lever as a threat to its sovereignty. Annexation of Crimea is a major irritant between two.War in Donbas region & Nordstrom 2 pipeline that bypasses Ukraine to sell gas to Germany is seen by Ukraine as war on its economy
Psychological damage of Chernobyl is so huge that spectre of nuclear war and a likely attack by Russia on its nuclear reactors is leveraged by all powers to stoke crisis time n again. Post maidan revolution, Andrii Deshchytsia, acting FM of Ukraine cited this possibility
And since then this theory has been used time and again by western press and anti Russian elements within Ukraine to showcase Russia as a likely aggressor- latter call is a slanderous accusation.
Usual suspect is at the forefront of leveraging spectre of nuclear war to pursue American interests. As Indians we know how this same argument has been used by US deep state to give long rope to Pak on the issue of promotion of terrorism in India. Image
On Russian part, they have been leveraging the divide that exists between Eastern Ukraine and Western Ukraine and have been pushing rebels and promoting subversive activities in Donbas region as a counter strategy to Ukrainian desire to leverage NATO vis-a-vis Russia!
The starting of Nord Stream 2 pipeline that bypasses Ukraine and allows Russia to sell gas to Germany is being seen by Ukraine as a direct assault on its economic interests as country relies heavily of gas transit fees. Reason why Germany is also an invisible player in this game
Lastly someone need to check the trade book of Hunter Biden and those close to him. It cant be a mere coincidence that he served on the board of Burisma for good 5 years and became an active player in lobbying for Ukraine after his dad became VP reuters.com/article/us-hun…

Games US played in Ukraine via Tymoshenko, Yushchenko and that Comedian Zelenskyy to build on the gains of the destruction of iron curtain in Eastern Europe has finally found a match in Putin wall. Do check Russian National Strategy of 2021 for some signals! #UkraineCrisis
Last year when that strategy came out, several geopolitical experts called that strategy a paranoid charter for the way document recognised how unfriendly countries are weakening Russia militarily, technologically, economically & spiritually and called for measures against that ImageImageImage
Earlier strategy document - Russian national security strategy document of 2015 (that came right after Ukraine went other way after throwing out of Yanukovych & his subsequent exile to Russia) - was more conciliatory & spoke of the need for constructive relation with US & allies

Perhaps reason lies in the fact that exponents of Indian classical music have to follow a regimented kind of disciplined lifestyle.

Compare it to the western one- without being judgemental- note how many western geniuses fell to drugs n committed suicide at very young age!

Recorded in 1979 in BBC studios, this live performance can help u imagine the day when she sang that eternal classic romantic song…. Only once she opened her eyes- some one wud say that she is focusing on lyrical notes but I always felt as if she is meditating while singing this

Inke 80s when we were kids, we were no different either!

Collecting “billas” thrown by the autos, that used to come for campaigning and boasting about the collection. The slogan of 81 election was: बीड़ी पीना छोड़ दो, बीड़ी में तम्बाकू है, इन्दिरा गांधी डाकू है!
My oldest memory of elections is that of 1981 in class 1 after HNB resigned from Garhwal seat & fought against might of Indira Gandhi who threw a challenge to him. My mom was in village, hence I accompanied my father to the final day parade ground rally in his bicycle… thread 👇🏻
The loss in that election right after thumping 80 victory was a watershed moment in the Indian electoral history and contributed a lot to Indira’s transformation- post that loss-into a leader, who began actively disassociating herself from Muslim politics!
