Leaving aside the board's executive director, four of the seven members in this photo are no longer on the board in the light of a new day. #ottcity
All four council appointed representatives have resigned from the police services board -- or in Deans' case, been voted out.
The three provincial appointees remain. #ottcity
Eli El-Chantiry, the former police board chair, has taken Deans' place.
Leiper has taken King's.
Meehan resigned at the end of the meeting without a replacement. The clerk will circulate to council to see who's interested. #ottcity
#OttCity council also replaced Sandy Smallwood with Suzanne Valiquet. She'd been a provincial appointee starting 2015-2020. Former exec of the Quartier Vanier BIA. Her name also comes to mind for reporters as Larco's media contact/consultant in the Chateau Laurier addition file.
Police services board meeting here:
NEW: As expected, Coun. Eli El-Chantiry named as chair to the reconstituted police services board.
Robert Swaita nominated him, seconded by Suzanne Valiquet. No other nominees. They'll put off vice-chair til next meeting. #ottcity#ottnews
I'd been tweeting about who the members of the board are. Re. Swaita, he was appointed in 2020 by the province.
Here's the bio from Swaita's appointment. He also ran against Deans in Gloucester-Southgate in 2018, came second to her. #ottcity
New police board chair Eli El-Chantiry points to the "stormy meeting" of last night.
He reassures the public that the Ottawa Police Services board will "strive to work together" and confirms that Steve Bell remain the interim chief, as we speak. #ottcity
Bell says the main focus is on police presence downtown, completing the mission, keeping people safe, with more info in hours to come.
A news conference coming up this afternoon, followed by an in-camera briefing for the new board.

The mayor and incoming police board chair Eli El-Chantiry thanked Matt Torigian for not coming to Ottawa after all to be the interim police chief, and for his "extremely gracious handling of this difficult situation."
We did not hear back directly from Mr. Torigian today, but did try to learn more about him, given his hiring caused such debate last night. He had been chief of the Waterloo Region until 2014. cbc.ca/news/canada/ki…
We'd seen he was named in an affidavit (for passing women over for promotions) in a broader proposed class action lawsuit related to gender-based harassment. That class action never ended up being certified by the courts. cbc.ca/news/canada/ki…
