3/ 2nd boosters only for 75+ and immunicompromised
This has left a lot of other CEV people under 75 quite concerned that they will not have the choice of a 2nd booster
A very narrow definition of at risk, assume its same definition for anti viral?
4/ Free testing even for symptomatic to be scrapped because the cost is deemed too high
Once again this impacts the disadvantaged, deepening health inequalities.
5/ Another issue with scrapping free testing is this means lots of people will get sick but won't get a diagnosis
Johnson spoke of improving treatment for long covid but we've seen how difficult it's been for sufferers from the first wave who weren't tested to get help
6/ The narrow definition of at risk will continue to have free testing, is it just me or does this not protect them, isn't it all the people interacting with them that need to be testing?
7/ Cynic in me wonders if the decision to limit boosters and treatments to such a narrow definition isn't just about cutting costs, it's sending the false message that only a very narrow section of the population are still at risk
8/ With only a narrow group to get boosted I wonder if they are thinking about winding down the rest of the vaccination programme in the future
JCVI minutes suggested vaccinating would only be a short term plan, natural immunity seems to be the future
10/ Simple non restrictive protections could reduce harm and make us better prepared for future variants, failure to do this is a political choice, party management put ahead of the people.
14/ Good thread summing up Whitty and Vallence at the briefing, they clearly don't support Johnsons plan, but have decided to stay inside the tent, like Fauci did
15/ We're now going to see the much of the media holding the party line, those in the media aren't in high risk jobs, they can afford to keep their personal risk low, basically they're tired of this (aren't we all) and won't take kindly to anyone that upsets this
16/ Exemplified by an @lbc caller talking to @NickFerrariLBC
They explained concerns for end of testing
NF "We can't stay locked down forever, think of the hospital waiting lists, think of the economy and the mental health damage to children"
So now testing = lockdown?
17/ Caller tried to explain the risk of vulnerable people in hospitals if we aren't testing to keep covid out
NF: "We can't stay in lockdown forever"
He can be a good interviewed but his brains melted on this
18/ Caller said hundreds are still dying a week
NF accuses him of disinformation "continue with that and I'll cut you off, hundreds are not dying a week, thousands of people didn't die over January and February like SAGE suggested."
Caller tried to counter, NF won't accept it
19/ NF "Only 15 died yesterday"
Caller explains the Sunday reporting effect, look at the dashboard at the weekly average
NF won't have any of it
Many in media are through the looking glass into fantasy land
20/ A victory for Libertarians
Just remember this article from Spectator 2019 to understand thr attitude we are dealing with
"The quality of human stock has been eroded worldwide by healthcare and welfare"
21/ 👏 For the GBD and their Koch backer. I'd say they need to own whatever comes next but they got away with their "no second wave" bollocks which led to late action and 10s of 1000s of preventable deaths
There are already rules for Impartiality, also teaching standards, Nolan principles etc
The guidence is ploughing the same furrow we've seen occuring the in US, and its chilling
2/ It's a dog whistle for RW "war on woke"
It's framing educators as the enemy
And the end result will be a narrowing of the ability for teachers to aid students in developing critical thinking
3/ We already had this with the RSE guidence last year, its relying on dealing with the world through the distorted lense of RW rags not the reality of what's going on in classrooms in the real world
Koch and Thiel funded culture wars in the US and have brought them to the UK
@OliverDowden is deeply unpatriotic, can wave his flags as much as he likes but truth is he's manufacturing division for the benefit of foreign interests
