THREAD: Some seriously fucked up stuff is going on in Florida with the “Don’t say gay” & “Stop WOKE” bills

Here’s what people need to know and how you can help ⬇️
If @GovRonDeSantis has his way, anything that affirms the existence of LGBTQ students or families will be banned from the classroom. You read that right. DeSantis and his allies in the Legislature are trying to fully silence, stigmatize, and erase LGBTQ people.
The “Don’t Say Gay” and “Stop Woke” bills encourage $10,000 lawsuits against schools and employers if they speak honestly about racism, or acknowledge LGBTQ people. They are attempting to erase our history. More info here:

Only a manufactured, whitewashed history is acceptable under DeSantis’ Surveillance and Censorship state. And to enforce it, DeSantis has called for videotaped surveillance in classrooms to monitor conversations between students and teachers.

In FL schools, books by Black and LGBTQ auth are already being pulled from school libraries. Civil rights lectures are being canceled. And companies can be sued if their diversity and equity programs or sexual harassment prev trainings make anyone  feel uncomfortable or guilty.

The bill sponsor of “don’t say gay” tried to make this horrible bill worse by forcing teachers to out students EVEN IF DOING SO ENDANGERS THE CHILD. The sponsor @JosephBHarding withdrew that amendment shortly before it was up for consideration. BUT
It could come back so keep up the pressure.

Project management is a severely undervalued skill.
lessons:

Think big- but start small and do it right- then scale.

Make it extremely clear who’s in charge of what.

Make a timeline with clear deadlines and goal posts

Have a specific and measurable goal

Know your strengths and find others who can fill in for your weak spots
Know not all your projects are going to work out and that’s ok, if you want to do big stuff is going to require doing a lot more and you’ll fail a lot more. But keep going, just try to fail in private and succeed in public.

Who needs to go to war with the US when you can infiltrate organizations like the NRA to change who’s in power and you can can convince your enemies citizens to take up arms against their government?

As Sun Tzu said: The greatest victory is that which requires to battle.
I am no expert, but from what I have studied from history and learned about foreign policy the greatest weakness of the west seems to be asymmetrical warfare. We can meet overt threats but when the threat is slow moving, internal and not overt we become our own worst enemy.
I have come up with a strange metaphor for this- the west is like cornstarch and water. If you punch it, all the particles lock into place and it’s impenetrable acting like a solid. But if you are slow, you can run your hand through it, like a liquid letting anything through.

Feel like it’s a good time to remind all of us that there is no reason any country including the United States needs the number of nuclear weapons we have right now. Any chance above zero of creating a nuclear winter and apocalypse by accident is not worth it.
Also hypersonic missiles are extremely dangerous because of how much less time there is to respond to them. It’s deeply concerning that a false signal could be interpreted as an incoming attack and we wouldn’t have enough time to verify- resulting in an accidental nuclear war.
I’m not an expert on this but feel we all have a right to discuss if the possible decimation or extension of the human race is a risk we should be willing to tolerate. We’re human beings and this impacts all of us.

Instead of changing their policies to have wider appeal, Republicans have resorted to voter suppression and attempting to whitewash our history in order to further turn the truth into a matter of opinion.

Turning truth into a matter of opinion is how you kill democracy.
They think acknowledging the darkness of our union's past and present makes our country weaker.
They are wrong.

Lying to ourselves and especially our children about our past is exactly how you make our country weaker.
We must acknowledge our past of intolerance and genocide if we ever want to progress and create a more perfect union.

Who we have been is not who we have to be but in order to do that we must confront our past, no matter how uncomfortable it makes the fragile men in power.

Our grandparents didn’t serve in World War II just for these fuckers to march on our streets

This video is not from 1930s Germany this is from Orlando Florida 2022 anti-semitism is alive and well.

We need leaders to fight against hate, not for it.

Also keep in mind they’re not just anti Semitic, they’re also homophobic and they are eugenicists who believe in the annihilation of anyone with physical disabilities or mental disabilities- including learning disabilities.
Please follow @AuschwitzMuseum it’s important to be reminded of the horrors such hate can bring and why we have to do everything in our power to stop it.
