Russia’s launch of a premeditated war against the sovereign nation of Ukraine is an attack on democracy and a violation of international law, global peace and security. Putin’s unprovoked actions will cause devastating loss of life and a diminishing of Russia in the world order.
The leadership of President Biden and our allies to demonstrate overwhelming resolve is crucial in this moment of heartbreak and suffering for the Ukrainian people. We are united with strength and coordination in our commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The response of America and our allies will be severe, ongoing and devastating for Russia, economically, diplomatically, and strategically. @POTUS has made clear throughout Russia’s escalation we will continue to impose costs on Russia that will leave it weakened in every way.
Congress is closely monitoring the situation, including with a briefing from the Administration today and with a classified in-person briefing next week. The U.S. Congress joins President Biden and all Americans in praying for the Ukrainian people. speaker.gov/newsroom/22422

In nominating Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court, @POTUS has chosen a widely respected jurist who will bring to the Court one of the sharpest legal minds in a generation, an unyielding commitment to justice and a strong voice for American values.
This is a moment of great pride & patriotism for our nation, as Judge Jackson makes history as the first Black woman nominated to the Supreme Court. She will also be the first federal public defender to serve on the Court & will bring extensive courtroom experience to the bench.
Judge Jackson will be a force for justice on the Court, with masterful command of the law and outstanding credentials. After beginning her career as a clerk for Justice Breyer, she will carry on his mission to preserve the Court’s role as a defender of our rights and freedoms.
Our Congressional delegation came to the United Kingdom to reaffirm our nations’ enduring relationship & to deepen the bonds between parliaments. In our discussions, we expressed how the relationship remains crucial in the fight against anti-democratic forces around the globe.
Yesterday, @CommonsSpeaker extended to our delegation the privilege of an official welcome to @HouseofCommons & a ceremonial luncheon with senior Members of Parliament. We also met with @BorisJohnson & discussed the determination of allied nations to counter Russian aggression.
Our delegation also held additional bilateral meetings with senior British leaders @trussliz & @Keir_Starmer to discuss the importance of the NATO alliance & transatlantic partnership, the COVID-19 response & the imperative of transitioning to diversified green energy solutions.

As threats to democracy grow more alarming and urgent, I am leading a Congressional delegation to Israel, Germany and the United Kingdom to focus on advancing security and stability, economic prosperity and democratic governance around the world.
Our first stop will be in Israel, recognizing our shared democratic values and mutual security. We will meet with the leadership of Israel and leaders in the civic community to discuss the prospects for a two-state solution and regional security.
At the Munich Security Conference, our delegation will reaffirm America’s ironclad commitment to the transatlantic partnership, especially in the face of worldwide challenges to democracy and the rise of autocratic threats.
Today, the House took a bold step forward in protecting the fundamental rights of the global LGBTQ community. The bipartisan #GlobalRespectAct will ensure America offers no safe haven to those who violate the human rights of our LGBTQ family, friends & neighbors around the world.
Tragically, thousands of LGBTQ individuals are subjected to attack, harassment, arrest and murder every year, suffering under state-sanctioned discrimination and a surge of violence. Those responsible all too often act with impunity, never facing consequences for their crimes.
The #GlobalRespectAct will help counter that injustice, barring offenders from entering the United States, gathering new data on anti-LGBTQ human rights violations and holding perpetrators accountable, including through additional sanctions.
Today’s jobs report makes resoundingly clear that, with nearly half a million new jobs created last month and 6.6 million new jobs created in the last year, the economic recovery powered by @POTUS' leadership and @HouseDemocrats' economic plan continues to be historic.
Now, @HouseDemocrats are prepared to build on this extraordinary economic momentum: continuing our work to lower families’ costs, strengthen our supply chains, and make more goods in America with the House passage of the #AmericaCOMPETES Act.
Today, the House will pass our #AmericaCOMPETES Act which will bring the manufacturing of critical goods, including semiconductor chips, back to our shores – while restoring American leadership in research and innovation and promoting American values on the world stage.
