Russia’s Invasion on Ukraine will have a significant impact on the Global Economy which was already suffering from Coronavirus disruptions and a global chip shortage from China impacting the supply chains. 90% of Neon used for Chip lethography is exported from Russia.
Russia and Ukraine lead the global production of metals such as nickel, copper and iron. They are also largely involved in the export and manufacture of other essential raw materials like neon, palladium and platinum.
Ukraine makes more than 90% of the high-grade neon in gas-phase lasers used to make chips produced by U.S. semiconductor companies. Palladium is used for everything from automotive exhaust systems and mobile phones to dental fillings.
Russia provides a third of the palladium metal used in sensors and memory products produced by U.S. companies. Russia is also a “crucial” source of C4F6 (hexafluorocyclobutene),
which several U.S. suppliers buy and purify for advanced node logic device etching and advanced lithography processes for chip production.
Russia and Ukraine together account for more than a quarter of global wheat exports (40%), while Ukraine alone makes up almost half of exports of sunflower oil in the world.
For example, Turkey and Egypt rely on them for almost 70% of their wheat imports. Ukraine is also the top supplier of corn to China.
Russia is one of the world's most significant suppliers of fertilizer and related raw materials such as sulphur. It was the largest exporter of urea, NPKs, ammonia, UAN and ammonium nitrate last year, and the third-largest potash exporter
Russia is second biggest Oil exporter& accounts for 1/3rd of the Gas supplies to Europe. Oil & Gas prices could sharply rise globally. Brent is already touching 102$ per barrel. US & Saudis can release more strategic oil reserves to lessen the chances of Hyper Inflation.
India imports a lot of machinery & spares for Russian military equipment from Ukraine. Sunflower oil from Ukraine all of which is gonna be impacted. The rising cude will send inflation through the roof pinching everyone pocked on petrol pumps.
Over & above pressure from America on buying Russian military hardware & CATSAA sanctions on S-400 Triumph missile defence system.
In short the Global Economy is Fucked. If COVID-19 & Semiconductors chip disruption form China wasn’t enough the Russian invasion in Ukraine and ensuing sanctions on its banks will make it worse. Expect big inflation across the world & supply chains disruptions across the world.
Energy Crisis, Food Shortages, Inflationary pressure will further mire the economic recovery as Central Banks will be forced to think on pushing in more stimulus. The Fed is likely to hold on before beginning the tapering of interest rates until the situation settles down.
Russia holds Palladium ~40% of global production, rough diamonds ~30%, significant market share in nickel, aluminium, titanium, platinum, fertilizers, coal, wheat and multiple other commodities. Also Russia exports a lot of weapons and STEM PhDs.
