1) Just a year before Pankaj was born in 1953, his father Ramanbhai Patel established Cadilla Laboratories along with Indravadan Modi who is popularly known as the 'Medicine Man of India".
2) Ramanbhai Patel used to be a lecturer in the L.M. College of Pharmacy.
3) Inspired by his father, Pankaj pursued a Bachelor of Pharmacy and Master of Pharmacy degree from Gujarat University, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Science and Law from the University of Mumbai.
4) After graduating he joined Cadila Healthcare in 1976.
5) In 1995 the Patel and Modi families split; the Modi family's share was moved into a new company called Cadila Pharmaceuticals Ltd., and Cadila Healthcare Ltd became the Patel family's holding company.
6) Pankaj took the charge and adopted Strategic Business Concept which was not yet executed by other corporate houses at that time.
7) When their first dream of reaching a turnover of Rs 1K Cr by 2000 was fulfilled, Pankaj had a higher ambition: to take the company to the globe.
8) Cadilla along with getting listed on the bourse started the acquisition of new companies and strategic alliances to become one of the top listed pharma companies in India.
9) In 1995 there were 1500 employees, Today the company has expanded to the staff strength of 11,000.
10) Today Zydus Lifesciences has a presence in 50 countries.
11) In 2015 the company acquired another Indian pharmaceutical company called German Remedies.
12) On 25 June 2007, the company acquired Química e Farmacêutica Nikkho do Brasil Ltda (Nikkho) as part of Zydus Healthcare Brasil Ltda.
13) In 2010, Cadila Healthcare received a Wellcome Trust Award under the "R&D for Affordable Healthcare in India" initiative.
14) In 2014, Cadila launched the world's first adalimumab biosimilar under the brand name Exemptia at one-fifth the originator's price.
15) They also launched its first research-based drug molecule Saroglitazar in the treatment of Diabetic Dyslipidemia under brand name Lipaglyn.
16) Patel was named the Best Pharma Man of the year 2003 by the Foundation of Indian Industry and Economists in recognition of the growth of Cadila under his leadership.
