As a result of Putin’s ongoing assault on Ukraine, @POTUS and the leaders of the European Commission, France, Germany, Italy, the UK, and Canada decided to take specific measures to further isolate Russia from the international financial system.
Continuing our lock step, historic coordination, the Leaders decided disconnect key sanctioned Russian banks from SWIFT, target the Russian central bank, and launch a joint task force to hunt down assets of sanctioned Russian companies and oligarchs.
The Leaders are committing to target the Russian Central Bank, the single most important financial institution in Russia. We are planning to impose measures to ensure Russia cannot use its Central Bank to support its currency and undermine the impact of our sanctions.
This coming week, we will launch a multilateral Transatlantic task force to identify, hunt down, and freeze the assets of sanctioned Russian companies and oligarchs – their yachts, their mansions, and any other ill-gotten gains that we can find and freeze under the law.
We are also announcing our commitment to take measures to limit the sale of citizenship - so called golden passports - that allow wealthy Russians connected to the Russian government become citizens in certain countries to gain access to our financial systems.
These unprecedented actions build on the swift and severe actions we have taken jointly with allies and partners this week.

THREAD: Today, President Biden is traveling to New York City with Attorney General Garland to announce new actions to continue executing on the President’s comprehensive strategy to reduce gun crime, which he announced in June 2021.
@POTUS will be joining a meeting of New York City’s Gun Violence Strategic Partnership – a coalition of federal, state, and local law enforcement officials who work together to take repeat gun violence offenders and weapons off our streets.
AG Garland and @TheJusticeDept will work with state and local law enforcement to expand strategies like the Gun Violence Strategic Partnership nationwide, and add personnel to help curb the flow of illegal guns sold in the South and found at crime scenes from Baltimore to NYC.
In July, President Biden signed an Executive Order to promote competition to lower prices for families, generate fairer wages for workers, and increase innovation by companies.
Here are a few updates on our progress ahead of @POTUS’s meeting with the Competition Council today:
.@POTUS's Executive Order announced support for the “right to repair" products. Since signing, @FTC announced a policy of greater enforcement against illegal repair restrictions. Now companies like Apple and Microsoft are making it easier for people to fix their electronics.
2. .@US_FDA proposed a new rule to make it possible for hearing aids to be sold over the counter without a prescription. This change is expected to lower the cost of hearing aids from thousands of dollars to hundreds of dollars — and let people pick them up at a local pharmacy.
Since @POTUS signed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law two months ago, the Administration has hit the ground running on the largest long-term investments in:
- Repairing roads and bridges
- Replacing lead pipes
- Providing high-speed internet to all Americans
And more.
.@USDOT and @USDOTFHWA announced $27 billion in funding to replace, repair, and rehabilitate bridges across the country to all 50 states, D.C., Puerto Rico, and Tribal governments over the next five years.
.@EPA announced $7.4 billion in funding allocations for states to upgrade America’s aging water infrastructure, sewage systems, pipes and service lines, and more.
The agency also announced $1 billion in funding to clean up 49 Superfund sites across 24 states.
Yesterday, our Administration launched a historic investment to repair and rehabilitate thousands of bridges across the country.
Here's how the program – funded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law – will impact a few states:
NBC Kansas City: Missouri to receive $484M to repair, preserve bridges
"[The] allotment will help repair 2,215 bridges listed as being in poor condition. An additional 12,715 bridges in fair condition will receive improvements to preserve them..." kshb.com/news/local-new…
The Oklahoman: Oklahoma set to get $266.9 million from infrastructure bill to repair and replace bridges.
"Funding will address 2,295 bridges in poor condition with any remaining funding to go to 11,025 bridges listed as being in fair condition." oklahoman.com/story/news/202…
