Everyday Ukrainians fighting for their young democracy are inspiring the world.
I also hope they challenge every American to think through all YOU can do to fight for democracy here, where it’s also under attack
There’s so much!
WATCH:
The approach I describe in the video is exactly what RFK meant when he said: “Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million…
2/
“…different centers of energy and daring those ripples build a current which can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.”
If we each use every aspect of our circle of influence—our footprint of impact—to serve democracy, it builds a scale of activity..
3/
…far greater than we have today.
Fighting for democracy—registering voters, encouraging early vote, holding rigged politicians accountable, advocating fiercely, supporting people/organizations that do this work etc.—can’t be a side/one-off activity, when…
4/
…deep-pocketed forces are dedicating everything they have to running down American democracy.
And we can’t just wait for group or pro-democracy heroes and sheroes like Stacey Abrams to save us….although we are lucky to have so many heroes out there doing incredible work.
5/
No, fighting for democracy must enter the blood stream of everything we each do.
And when we all commit to that, that’s when our collective effort reaches a scale that can win long-term.
So take stock of every part of your footprint of influence.
Make a concrete list.
6/
Then think about how every aspect of that footprint can be put to work FOR democracy. You’ll quickly see how much more you can do
And tweet back at me what some of those ideas are
I go though this in far more detail in my book. Concrete things we can all do, now and always.
7/
But even since releasing the book, I’m learning about so many more incredible efforts doing exactly what we need to do to fight for democracy everywhere.
You too can start that work today.
Let’s stand with Ukraine. Pray for their success. And be inspired by their fight.

You want to read a Court decision absolutely throttling an out-of-control legislature that refuses follow the law but thinks Ohio voters are too dumb to figure them out?
"...the map drawers & the commission knew that their approach—starting w the invalidated map & switching competitive GOP-leaning districts to competitive Dem-leaning districts—would have the dual effect of eliminating weak GOP districts & creating weak Dem districts.

"DiRossi and Springhetti still ultimately drafted the plan, and they answered only to Senate President Huffman and House Speaker Cupp. As before, “the commission itself did not engage in any map drawing or hire independent staff to do so.”

Here’s LaRose promising, in 2018, that “I want my party to win elections because we have better candidates and better ideas - not because we use modern GIS mapping software…to draw district lines better than the other party.”
The rules greatly constrained what they could do re Cincinnati. Thank the voters for that, not the legislators.
The heist was in then carving Hamilton county 3 ways, carving out Dem north central parts of the county and placing them in the 8th district to offset the
Late last night, those challenging the latest round of maps filed objections which made an incredibly strong argument about how Huffman and his gang of lawbreakers once again violated the Constitution.
1. “the Commission chose once again to engage in a highly secretive, one-sided partisan process, [and] employed technical maneuvers to flout notice requirements….the Commission did not make data use relying the [plan] available until after its adoption….”
2/
2. In response to questions about the GOP map, “Co-chair Cupp jumped in to assert that the map-drawers had ‘given the answer that they can give’ and abruptly recessed the meeting.”
“As soon as the meeting resumed, Huffman immediately moved to adopt the [] proposal.”

new Russia, my primary assignment for Dr. Brzezinski was to do deep and continuing research on the “new” Ukraine. It’s politics. Economics. Etc.
No one else was talking about Ukraine. But it’s all he wanted me to do.
Regular reports & a longer paper

He then explained it.
As he said then, Ukraine is the key. If Ukraine is a strong country that stands on its own, Russia will remain within its borders and not be tempted to return to its past expansionist ways.
But a weakened Ukraine risks an expansionist Russia
