I agree that what Texas is doing re threats to parents of trans children is appalling. But this response - from the President no less! Is equally troubling.

If by ‘affirm’ it is meant - approve the administration of cross sex hormones or surgical intervention on children too young to consent, when the evidence base for the efficacy of such treatment is so poor - then this risks causing irreversible and life long harm to children.
It is not ‘transphobia’ nor any kind of bigotry to be worried about this. We should all be committed to open and honest discussion about how to support and protect children - not bringing religion in as back up to blindly ‘affirming’.
Children are not ‘made in the image of God’ - we atheists deny the existence of gods in our creation. We are made up of flesh, blood and bone. Sometimes things go wrong in our creation and development and we need skilled medical professionals to help us.
We need these skilled professionals to be guided by evidence, not claim that they are moved by some divine religious force.
