Journalists and commentators who don't work for corporate news outlets can form independent opinions. They may pepper coverage and analysis with references to respected foreign policy experts. But anything close to the party line will be held up as stuff of "Kremlin narratives."
This didn't start now. It started before the war, and the pressure to censor and avoid engaging in debates that could be twisted in bad faith to tarnish your reputation wasn't as bad. Before the war was the time to speak up. Now, it'll be even harder to defend free thought.
The people who insisted, without proof, that Russia kept Hillary Clinton from becoming first woman president run the show now. They don't have to take responsibility for anything. They're even more free to blame "Russian bots," "Putin apologists," or "Kremlin assets," & carry on.
