1/ We have seen some misleading information being spread about streaming that can be potentially harmful to j-hope's music. This (long, sorry) thread will try to explain the basics of some of the most pertinent aspects of the Spotify algorithm wrt #jhope as far as we can tell.
2/ We will provide sources for people who wish to delve deeper. Firstly, Spotify's (Sp) algorithm is called BaRT (Bandits for Recommendations as Treatments).
3/ It makes use of three main models: a collaborative recommendation model (using both exploitation and exploration modes), a model that analyses the 'mood' of the song and an Natural Language Processing model that tracks over 10 million websites.
4/ Combined these all play a role in how Sp recommends songs to users. The two modes that fans can help with are the collaborative recommending model CMR and the NLP one.
5/ With the CMR Sp tracks and analyses many metrics - skip rate, listen rate, how many times it is added to play lists (PL) be they personal, official or algorithmic ones like Discover Weekly, favourite songs, what other songs the artists listeners and followers are listening…
6/ …to, saving rate, how many times is a song listened to and when, where the listeners are located, if people who listen to the song check out the artist's bio, the album/s, how long they spend doing so, if they add other songs by the artist to a PL or to multiple PLs, etc.…

10/ To dismiss streaming projects because you do not 'approve' of the collaborators is not going to help j-hope's music spread to a wider audience.
11/ We have no idea what other artists the fans of any group/artist listen to and how far a reach their musical tastes can help to spread j-hope's music too. Sp is not to be thought of as simply a music platform. It is and behaves like a social media platform.
12/ If we really want to help j-hope on Spotify we need to utilise this fact. We also need to acknowledge that Sp has increased its filtering. The more new people who listen to his music, the more PLs his music is added to the better.
13/ It helps build momentum, it helps the algorithm to see his music, it helps to keep his metrics on the upward curve.
14/ To put it as plainly as we can, only streaming j-hope's music with BTS or artists BTS have collaborated with or the few other top-level popular artists will not help j-hope in the long run.
15/ To do that you need to add in many other artists to your streaming from a diverse background of genres, countries, cultures and languages and from diverse levels of popularity too.
16/ This will help to both spread his music to as wide an audience as possible and help lessen the filtering rate to a degree. So please do NOT only stream with BTS and BTS collaborators. If you do not like a streaming project's collaborators don't take part.
17/ But please stop sabotaging j-hope's music, even if in only a small way, for your preferences, egos or opinions.

18/ Extra: other VERY important things to do on Sp to help him which we think most people are aware of but need repeating – do not skip his songs, save his songs, favourite them, share his Sp link on every SNS platform, listen for at least 30secs to his songs, visit his bio and…
19/ …spend some time there and on HW's page, use his name as it is written on Sp when making posts, blogs, comments, etc about his music – j-hope – the hyphen counts.
