If we want to succeed on YouTube, people often say niche down to blow up.
They’re right to an extent.
They’re two ways you can approach this👇
The Archaeologist 🔍
I’m no Indiana Jones, but this is the way I’d recommend most of you go about finding your niche.
Start creating content and, over time, you’ll find what you enjoy and your niche will emerge.
Sort of like digging for fossils 🦖
The Architect 🏦
If you’re a big planner, you may want to discover your perfect niche before even thinking about filming your first video.
The only issue with this folks, is that it can lead to procrastination.
There’s also a few other things to consider when finding your niche 👇
1 - What do you love to watch or listen to? 😀
What topics are you familiar with?
Ask these questions now, because you’ll be consistently making content around your niche.
No passion = no motivation 🤷
2 - What’s your Unfair Advantage?
Last year, @StartupHasan and @Ash_Ali won the award for the UK's Business Book of the Year with ‘The Unfair Advantage’.
What’s unique about you?
@StartupHasan@Ash_Ali I was a (very) nerdy Uni of Cambridge student interested in productivity, coding and passing my Medical exams 😅 while creating YouTube content.
Altogether, this formed my niche and that’s pretty hard to replicate.
What do they want? Why can’t they get what they want? What frustrates them?
If you know what your ideal audience is, it’s easier to tailor content. I started with creating a specific target Avatar 👇
@StartupHasan@Ash_Ali My original audience was a guy called Medic Mo, studying at Imperial College London, who’s interested in tech, productivity and entrepreneurship 💭
His degree is a bit boring at times but he enjoys it.
He’s a great guy.
@StartupHasan@Ash_Ali 4 - What value do you want viewers to get from your channel? 💸
Why should they care?
Why would they want to come back?
@StartupHasan@Ash_Ali As students are always trying to balance work and free time, I created actionable content on how to live productively 📝
My content isn’t bloated, and doesn’t require a high barrier to entry.

Over the past 4 years of making videos on YouTube, I’ve figured out loads of ways of generating new video ideas and a system to manage them.
One of them I like to call the ABC(s) of idea generation 👇
1. A → Ask Your Audience 🙋
Everyone has an audience, even if you’re just starting. If you’ve got social media followers it’s easier but even if you don’t you can still ask friends, family etc
This is a super-easy way to generate a handful of ideas and get your creative juices flowing.
