^^ FOR THE RECORD I have a Grandmother who is "in decline" but as awareness of it and it's depressing, so I've got that going for me
(I've seen both these lovely actors/actresses in previous roles)
Obviously I already have the expectation Anthony Hopkins is going nutty, I just want to see how good this movie pulls it off
The best I have to offer in the meantime -- how could anyone find such a wholesome fella like Hopkins intimidating? The movie kinda sets him off like it, here.
What @MauLer93 said about the layout of the house in "The Father" only actually makes sense from watching it, compared to what he described in his video.
I didn't get what he meant from his Youtube thing alone, but the movie sets it up.
But anyway. Having lived with "old persons" this movie nails the vibe right off the bat.
He's so good at looking the right amount of "LOST"
Even though I was previewed the META of "The Father" within the first ten minutes of watching the actual film it's a convincing enough portrayal.
my attention is obsessed on seeing shit move around in this apartment
Who are you?
Ok at this point (15 minutes in) they are very clearly setting up a distinction.
On ONE line: it's the decline in Anthony Hopkins memory
BUT ON THE OTHER: they're throwing in "WHAT DO YOU AS THE AUDIENCE REMEMBER, HUH?!? LOL"
TEN YEARS THOUGH?
wow
Ok by the second scene I'm left wondering if the first even happened.
Anthony Hopkins becomes the only constant in this world of changing variables
the only pillar of this movie is when the scenes are allowed to breathe and give some kind of exposition no matter how nonsensical it might end up being
Whoa there Joe Biden, stop yelling
"It's not your flat!"
ok
"IM NOT THE SAME ACTRESS LOL"
oh god
I'm a carefully diligent person.
But it only took me 20 minutes into "The Father" for me to lose my grasp on reality.
"who the fuck am I? And why am I a cartoon crab on Twitter all of a sudden?" i ask myself
The fact that it's not Olivia Colman anymore actually comes off as unsettling
"I GOT DIVORCED MORE THAN FIVE YEARS AGO"
no. STOP
THE HUSBAND JUST TOLD ME THE MARRIAGE WAS FINE. I WAS THERE. I SAW HIM SAY THAT.
(Im now left with the impression that Anthony Hopkins is right all along, and there's people messing with him)
STOP FUCKING WITH ME
ok they give a glimpse of the outside world. HAS IT CHANGED?
lol no it hasn't. fuckkkkkkk
They are cruel and clever about how they change shit around.
"this is my flat. isn't it?"
bruh i don't know anymore
SCENE CHANGE
SCENE CHANGE
VERY MUCH NOT THE SAME FLAT
I AS THE VIEWER STILL HAVE THE CAPABILITY TO DISTINGUISH THAT.
CAN'T PULL ANOTHER FAST ONE ON ME
NO. WE ARE VERY CLEARLY, SOMEWHERE ELSE NOW.
By the power of screenshots I know this similar looking kitchen is not the same.
But i'm grasping onto these facts, they are all I have.
