Some thought-provoking points by @harari_yuval :
> As Anne Applebaum suggested, the resistance to authority is the very essence of 'Ukraine-ness'. Even in the last 30 years, we saw 🇺🇦 rising twice in revolt when there was a danger of an authoritarian regime being established

> Before many things were known: Russia's army was stronger than the Ukrainian; NATO would not send armed forces, etc. But there was one big unknown - how Ukrainians would react. There was the option that Putin’s fantasy would come true. Now we know this was just fantasy.

> It can be an opportunity to end the culture war within the West. Ukraine is a reminder that liberalism and nationalism (in a sense of defending the country) can go together. They meet around the value of freedom. Nationalism isn't about hating minorities or foreigners.

> What’s at stake in Ukraine “is the direction of human history”
> To Germans - "we know, you are not nazis". What we need from Germany now is to stand up and be at the forefront, struggling for freedom

1/4 Ukraine filed a case against the Russian Federation at the International Court of Justice, and a request for the Court to issue an order of provisional measures against Russia
2/4 Russia is perverting the modern international order. It is abusing the sacred responsibility of preventing genocide, the most serious international crime, as a pretext to commit the crime of aggression against a sovereign state
3/4 The Court has jurisdiction to hear Ukraine’s case, and to order emergency measures, on the basis of the Genocide Convention, which is one of the most important international treaties, drafted in response to the horrors of World War II and the Holocaust

Ukraine applied for EU membership today. We strongly support this decision because:
1. Ukraine has made its unequivocal pro-Western choice in 2014 and has been consistently pursuing it.
2. Ukraine is already integrated into the EU economically, politically, and culturally. De facto Ukraine is already a part of the European Union to a significant extent.

2/6 Russia's invasion of Ukraine is taking innocent lives and devastating a peaceful country. We can stop it. There are two practical steps the international community can take to halt the Russian invasion in its tracks immediately.
3/6 1) Russia funds its wars with its oil and gas pipelines. To stop the Russian invasion, we need to demand an immediate embargo on Russian oil and gas. Only then will Putin run out of rubles for his war.

Ukraine has been living with war for eight years in Donbas. The war has left scars which are impossible to erase. Ukrainians spent eight years watching the news every day and hearing the dead called by name.
But now this war is everywhere. It is in Sumy, Kherson, Chornobyl, Mariupol, and in Kyiv. It is in Kyiv courtyards, on children’s playgrounds. Orphanages and residential buildings have become targets for the Russian invasion army.
