This #iwd I’d like to shout out my mum, who lives on the GC, has spent three days delivering hot food and supplies to the northern rivers, & who plans on going back tomorrow. With permission these are some of her observations from being down in #Lismore, Murwillumbah & Coraki a🧵

2/ “We delivered this and more food yesterday. The green portable Bain marie is on loan and keeps food warm for 8 hours. 3 people cried yesterday and so many said they only realised yesterday they do need help and the gesture of feeding them a hot cooked meal meant so much.

3/ Last night some friend drove 2 hrs to my place and helped prep food til 2 am. I'm so tired I just woke up and I know I'll go in the kitchen and everything will be cooked or cooking ready to go to coraki. I think I'll sleep more while they drive down. 3 large 4wds full of

4/ cleaning stuff, baby clothes, personal items and hot food. Made possible by many and a small thing to do when people have lost so much.
Many thanks to all who donated cooked meals, ingredients, petrol money and goods to deliver. You all rock 🙏

People have been told if they

5/ don't get the wet plaster out of the house within72 hrs the house is condemned due to black mould.

It's awful. People are still being rescued dead and alive from mud slides.

There was an old couple sitting here crying. she lost it when we offered food.

6/ They have volunteers helping

Just had a cry. So many have had no official support for days. I'm going to eat some soup and keep smiling. Just need a minute

This is another little corner of the world with mostly local flood effected people helping other flood effected people

7/ There's caravans in places where they shouldn't be like tree tops

8/ When I sent mum a link to this 🧵she replied, “That's great, thank you. People need to know the truth- the Gov lies. The relief on their faces when people came today was awesome to see. My friends were there too. One stayed with me last night & tonight too. We purchased more

9/ food with donated money just before Coles shut & she chopped it all ready to cook in the morning. Her husband & daughter stayed in Broadwater to help the old couple. We left them all food for tomorrow.

Many people say " give it to someone worse off than me", and then later

10/ come back & say "is there any left?"
Humans are beautiful, just so many good kind humans I see everywhere 😍
We served food directly to more flood effected people today. Coraki and Lismore had a lot of helpers so we found ourselves at Broadwater who had no help whatsoever

11/ until today. It was devastating. We saw an old woman rocking herself, covered in mud and she cried when we offered her food.

That was it for me. I had to sit in the car as I sobbed. It truly is a warzone & people were so grateful for a hot meal & a chat. Some of my friends

12/ stayed to help them as they have 3 days to get the wet plaster out or black mould sets in & their house is condemned. My friend hugged the older woman who was overwhelmed that help had come. She cried in Sue's arms and her husband cried too. We stayed with them til late.

13/ So many beautiful connections. I love that we are helping this way, not just dropping off food, though I am happy to drop items off for people.

14/ flooded the top floor before & they were all shocked at how quickly it rose, and were then trapped upstairs in the wet or on the roof for days until the water went down.
There are 2 refrigerated trucks full of food arriving in coraki today which Dion will help unload then he

15/ and Siena will go back and help the old couple. So good people - Adam who organised the refrigerated trucks purchased a boat and drove up from Newcastle to assist.
I heard the PM is going to Lismore today. I would not be surprised if they chase him out of town”

17/ Just got another message from her now about today, her fifth day volunteering down there in a row, “We came back to Broadwater again and served hot meals to many people who said we were the first to help them. We even fed 40 young soldiers who finally arrived today & worked

18/ alongside my friends on the old couple from yesterday's house. The old couple were smiling today and happy to receive more hot food. There's no way they could have cleaned their house themselves. Their house is the highest in the street and the water came between the

19/ downstairs ceiling and the upstairs floor boards. All up they had 8-10 civilian workers plus army helping. It started raining so we gave the army the last of our food at the library which is a hub. They were stoked as they said their rations were shit.”

20/ Thank you so much to everyone who has shared or commented on this thread. Just got off the phone to Mum where I passed on all of your beautiful words and thanks to her, she got emotional again as all she wanted by sharing this was to get the word out to more people about

21/ what’s really happening down there.

Mum only took a couple hours rest today before she was back down there, she couldn’t stay away while people still need help. She’s been mostly in Chinderah & Cudgen today, and I’ll get a full update from her tonight with more photos.

22/ Thank you again to everyone who has shared this. One final note for now is that Mum is 60, has a degenerative chronic illness, & has been down there with hot food every day for 6 days now bc help is needed
@ScottMorrisonMP & the whole #LNPDisgrace have no excuse.
