Today's announcement that @mbachelet of @UNHumanRights will visit the region of the Chinese genocide, Xinjiang (East Turkestan), in May, suggests that the UN has folded in the face of Chinese dictates for a #Theresienstadt-style pretend visit.
The Chinese authorities has consistently denied and obfuscated all the facts about their genocide, staging and controlling every visit by outsiders. It's who they are -- and there is no chance they will halt this behavior for @MBachelet.
Make note: Any witnesses or interviewees produced for Bachelet by the genocidaire authorities, will be strictly controlled by them, without exception, and under duress, as to what they will say or admit, on pain of death.
The main interest here of the Chinese regime is buying time to complete the multi-year genocide plan for erasing the Uyghurs by way of displacement, as well as cultural & physical annihilation.
If the @UNhumanrights and the @UN prestige is to be salvaged, the delegation

... would have to make surprise unimpeded visits to points not pre-announced to the Chinese authorities and talk to people without the authorities' presence.
That can't happen.
So, the whole thing risks becoming an exercise in face saving for the Chinese genocidaries.

We must also now all continue ask, where is the report from Bachelet, promised since December? --already nearly 4 years late, after she first sounded the alarm in 2018.
Has it been suppressed on Xi Jinping's request to @antonioguterres in their meeting at the Olympics?

I fear that @antonioguterres delaying the report from @UNHumanrights for a staged visit will damage the UN irreparably, and help the Chinese regime in buying more time for the genocide.
7/n
That would mean the UN was first humiliated by Putin--which launched its invasion during last week's meeting with Guterres in New York--and now, by Xi, who'll be busy stage-prepping some dancing, happy Uyghurs while his genocide proceeds according to plan.
A crushing blow.

The right thing for @UNHumanrights would be to abstain from going to #Theresienstadt, and instead issue a report based on the mountains of available evidence--and, to propose an OFFICIAL international tribunal on China (building on the civil-society @TribunalUyghur ).

Today Apr 23 @NatCounterPunch published one of the absolute worst, dishonest examples of genocide denialism I've seen so far. It's by @Alfreddezayas and @rfalk13 and it's worse even than Sachs & Schabas. Despite mountains of evidence, including from Zayas' own UN colleagues,

they call the genocide charge against China "evidence-free": Zayas & Falk knowingly insult the wide range of in-office UN experts who've repeatedly expressed deep concern about the evidence, news.un.org/en/story/2021/… - alongside the High Commissioner for Human Rights herself,
