British Columbia has many water animals. Lets vote on some of them. #bcpoli
The Orca Whale vs. Chum Salmon.
There are five species of salmon. They are all in the bracket. Chum just got unlucky and drew the Orca in the first round.
The local NHL club has an Orca on it's jersey when it is not a skate.

White side dolphin vs. Dall's Porpoise
The white sided dolphins are the ones that like to show off with all the jumping.
The Dall's porpoise is the largest of all the porpoises.
Humpback Whale vs. Sea Lion
Good news. Humpbacks are making big returns to BC waters.
The Stellar Sea Lion is the most common on Vancouver Island.
Grey Whale vs. Pacific Herring
There are over 20,000 Pacific Grey Whales that make their way up Vancouver Island every year.
The Pacific Herring is a crucial part of the food web.
Sockeye Salmon vs. Pink Salmon
The salmon is at a disadvantage because their are five species. These are two of them.
Chinook Salmon vs. Coho Salmon
Pick your salmon.
Harbour Seal vs. Northern Elephant Seal
Seals are cool. Pick your favourite.
Sea Otter vs. Cutthroat Trout
Otters are adorable because they hold hands.
The farthest inland you will see the cutthroat is the headwaters of the Skeena.

The final 32 is before us.

Here is the updated bracket. Voting begins now. #bcpoli ImageImage
Orca Whale vs. Pacific White-Sided Dolphin
The Orca Whales along BC's coast are some of the most studied whales in the world.
The White Sided Dolphin love company. They often swim in groups of 10 up to 100.
Humpback Whale vs. Gray Whale
The Humpback Whale loves to feed along BC's coast as part of migration. They use what is called bubble bet feeding.
About 20,000 Gray Whales migrate each year along BC's coast and 200 or so resident whales will stay and feed.

The final quadrant. This is the specialty part of the bracket. Some are figments of the imagination. Some don't fit into other categories. Some are individual/groups of well known animal(s). One is a human in a suit. Let's go. #bcpoli
Ogopogo vs. Fin
The Ogopogo is more than a creature in a lake. It is a symbol of a city. A logo on a jersey. A statue in a park. And maybe a log floating in the water.
Fin is the mascot of the Vancouver Canucks.
Peacocks vs. Stanley Park Coyotes
I left Metro Vancouver before the whole peahens/peacocks take over Surrey thing. They also like Beacon Hill Park.
@j_mcelroy and I once watched a guy run around trying to get close enough to take a selfie with a Coyote at the SP pitch and putt.

Half the first round is done.
Dinner is over.
Now to the second half of the bracket.
Let's begin in the air. #bcpoli
Bald eagle vs. barn swallow
There is a country who uses the eagle as one of it's symbols. Then there is BC, where eagles gather in larger numbers THAN ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD.
Barn swallows are currently at risk.
Brant vs. California Quail
The brant or brent goose. There is a Brant festival every year in Parksville and Qualicum Beach.
They may have California in the name, by the Cali Quail is now a BC mainstay.

I know you guys feel like you are cheating on @j_mcelroy. But he will get over it.
Let's do a bracket to determine the most iconic BC creature. #bcpoli
Beginning with land animals.
The Kermode Bear vs. the North American Beaver.
One is the star of an Imax film voiced by Ryan Reynolds and is also known as the spirit bear.
The other is on the nickel.
Moose vs. Bison
There are about 170,000 Moose in B.C. and over 70% live in Northern BC.
Both races of bison are found in BC, mainly in the northeast.
