It just means 'women'. Some just happen to be on reprieve on account of their gender-appropriate submissive conduct
TERF is used to enforce gender-normative behaviour through threats of violence and ostracism directed at the class of people who, in accordance with gendered socialisation, are meant to prioritise other people's needs above their own
It's about enforcing gender norms, not challenging those who enforce them. An exaggerated version of #BeKind pressure placed on little girls - the stick versus the carrot

Yes, we are most likely to be killed by the male people we live with. And when we express our fears of them, we encounter the exact same belittlement, disbelief and discrediting as when we express our fears of the male people we don't live with
Because the accused is a great guy/the real victim here. Because it's six of one, half a dozen of the other. Because it's a volatile relationship/debate. Because we're spiteful and hysterical. Because it's all a bit toxic, in need of a bit less heat, more light.
Because we're imagining things. Because we must have done *something* to provoke that kind of reaction. Because we could have just "kept quiet and started apologising". It is the exact same process of dismissal inside and outside the home.

For the last sodding time, feminism is not a project to liberate the word 'woman' from any association with female bodies on the basis that biologically female = brood mare. It's the liberation of the fully human people many men see fit to treat as brood mares
"We will liberate women by recasting the people formerly known as women as gestators/birthers etc. Then 'women' can mean 'properly human people'."
Female people are fully human and our biology does not make us inferior
That's the point of "biology is not destiny". Not "women don't have to be those inferior brood mare creatures any more (whose reproductive capabilities we'll still exploit)", but that female biology does not determine our exploitation and dehumanisation - men do

Incredibly patronising Women's Equality Party response to the question "what is a woman?", as though the main concern of those asking the question is how the answer might make the respondent look archive.ph/vLaYx Image
I think women want to be assured they're being represented, that there's an understanding of their class status and history, that there's consistency in how the cumulative impact of sexism across embodied female lifecycles is understood. That they're not just "non-men"
If feminism has never been more needed, then stop digging away at the very foundations of feminist thought, politics and sex class cohesiveness while telling off everyone else for being too petty and obsessed with the basics

This casual pretence of not knowing robs women of the intellectual framework with which to analyse our oppression - and trashes all the centuries of work female thinkers and activists have put into developing it
It's in itself a demonstration of how gender functions - to invisibilise women's work, deny us a history, treat our contributions to politics and philosophy as transient and unimportant because there's no defining thread that connects us
This is a lot of what I'm trying to say here. You cannot take female experience seriously unless you treat it as interconnected - both within an individual lifetime (not as a series of menstruator / gestator etc. 'episodes') and across time

In The Beauty Myth (1990), Wolf describes how plastic surgery is not a real choice if the alternative is another form of mistreatment for women. She compares it to an animal gnawing off its own leg to get out of a trap. >
Thirty years on, I don't doubt the need many feel to have surgery so that the world might come a little closer to seeing them as they truly are. I still think the problem is the world and how it reads the body, not the body itself. >
30 years ago, I didn't want breasts, either, but wasn't allowed to disappear or have surgery. Instead I was force-fed. I don't consider force-feeding - forcing someone to live in a body they don't want - a good solution. It still distresses me. >

This is funny because I always thought gender stereotypes were maintained, & patriarchy consolidated, by men talking over women, misrepresenting their arguments and thinking dressing up is more groundbreakingly non-conformist than shutting up & listening
theguardian.com/fashion/2022/m… Image
When my older boys were little, I used to write a lot about the need to end gender stereotyping in clothing and toys - letting my sons were dresses etc. The men currently lecturing feminists on our alleged attachment to gender stereotypes had no interest in such issues.
Letting your kids wear what they like = boring mumsy stuff. Using "wearing what you like" as a substitute for actually changing your behaviour and examining your entitlement = bring it on!
