State #waleg leaders from both parties in a good mood so far, as they announce final transportation budget bills. Livestream at tvw.org/video/conferen…
Significant that Rep. Sharon Wylie, D-Vancouver, is zooming alongside the other transpo leaders #waleg. Washington state's share of a mega I-5 bridge replacement into Oregon would be funded by the 2022 package.
Sen. Curtis King, R-Yakima now critiques how Dems crafted the $17b package without conferring with GOP, "that shortchanges the citizens statewide." He especially blasts fee increases for vehicle owners.
Considering the partisan divide, King and Rep. Andrew Barkis, R-Olympia, are being quite genteel in their criticisms. Barkis favored zero fee and tax hikes, adding "I was blown away by $5.29 per gallon" at local pumps this morning.
King in subsequent remarks. "It is a unique experience because it is a partisan transportation package, it is no longer a bipartisan transportation package..." He suggests at least six @wsferries should have been funded with climate-act money, instead of four.

"The average person might be surprised at how much roadway is proposed to supplement the tunnel...."
