9 Takeaways after two years of building a #SaaS company from idea to 100 Reviews on the #Shopify App store
This is what I learned
[ a thread ] 💻🏠🌎
1️⃣ GO-GO-GO:
Start by reaching out to your closest buddies in the community
Share your idea and listen to what they have to say about it
In the beginning you have only mockups to show, but they still can go a long way
2️⃣ Stay focused:
Time and resources are limited
Always play the 80/20 principle regardless of the scenario
You're only as good as your last performance
Imagine performing at your best every day
3️⃣ You're (NOT) alone :
There's always at least one human being you can reach out to who's willing to give a hand when shit hits the fan
I mean it, I saw it, it will happen again
Keep ya head up and keep pushing forward
4️⃣ Customers:
I probably had more than 100+ (demo) calls with clients
Listen, take notes, let them speak and that's how you ship the right product
Build features based on necessity and that's how you innovate
5️⃣ Marketing:
Oh boy, there are dozens of channels to go after and quite often we try to optimize for all of them at once 👉 Huge mistake
Pick one, get traction, develop, automate
Then pick another one if you need
6️⃣ Transparency:
Openness and honesty are the foundation of a business
Be Authentic, NOT a Copycat
You might not be perfect, but you surely can be genuine
Real recognize real, I mean it
7️⃣ Vision, mission, values:
There's a quote by Roy H. Williams
"If you try to appeal to everyone, you will often appeal to no one"
In the beginning you can only serve a small group of customers, so just make your product sticky for them and them only
8️⃣ Boostrapped vs Funded:
Such a hot topic and sometimes looks like a dog fight, lol
What is often untold is that market will decide who wins at the end of the day
It's always about momentum, speed, efficacy no matter what
9️⃣ Network:
I wouldn't be writing this tweet if it wasn't for all our friends, investors, employees, customers, partners, the family that were supporting us and still do to this day
Your success is theirs as well, remember that!
Cheers
