🌐Using open source investigation methods, @Telegraph has collected data from online posts on Twitter, Telegram and Reddit to plot where shelling, gunfire and troop movements are most likely to have taken place
What the map has detected so far

🔴On the second day of the invasion, the data tracks the path taken by Russian troops as they prepared to launch their siege on Kyiv Image
In recent days, the data also shows the Russian advance towards the key port of Odessa; first in taking control of the city of Kherson and then by launching an assault on Mykolaiv Image
How the data was collected

🗺️Data for this map has been gathered from a selection of users, channels and subforums
@alex_jay_clark collected posts going back to the beginning of the invasion and are collecting new posts every hour
📍@TelegraphData are representing the reports as a heatmap, with counts mapped at the location of the city or town involved

🇷🇺Usually it’s just a slur of static. But occasionally there is a barrage of apparently-random Russian words and numbers:
