I'm still thinking a lot about the #Endurance discovery this week - so if you are craving a bit more Endurance/Shackleton/shipwreck - here are a few things for you ... 🧵
Start with having another look at the ***AMAZING*** footage from the dive - this is the piece that ran on BBC News made with top team @alisonfrancis and @DuncanCStone vimeo.com/686179851
If you want to see more on the #Endurance story, as luck would have it @BFI recently released South. It's a film made from the incredible footage captured more than 100 years ago during the Shackleton expedition www2.bfi.org.uk/blu-rays-dvds/…
While I'm at it, let me recommend a visit to the @scottpolar in Cambridge. It has some incredible objects from the 1914 expedition - including a piece of the ship's mast which is casually hanging above a door!
(stills by @DuncanCStone )
For more reading try The Shipwreck Hunter by @davidlmearns - it has a great chapter on #Endurance...
And if the discovery has got you excited about deep sea exploration - follow @VictorVescovo - who has been visiting the deepest places in the oceans in his incredible submersible. He's also visited shipwrecks -including the Titanic. bbc.co.uk/news/science-e…
And if you like the critters that live in the deep - here's a brilliant thread from @griffiths_huw about the sea creatures that have made the wreck of Endurance their home.
!!!!ENDURANCE DISCOVERY ALERT!!!! Shackleton’s lost ship has been located - and the images are INCREDIBLE. Amazing achievement for @Endurance_22 team

@Endurance_22 The wreck was found just over 3,000m down in the Weddell Sea - just 7km from the coordinates recorded on the day the ship vanished beneath the ice more than 100 years ago #Endurance22

It’s condition is extraordinary - it looks like it has been frozen in time. You can see clear features - the wheel is almost pristine, bolts gleam from the wood and there’s even some discarded crockery on the deck #Endurance22
Chris Witty and Patrick Valence doing a science q&a now
Witty: We are dealing with uncertainty - have accelerated knowledge from virtually nothing in January to what we have now. But there are critical questions we don't know the answer to now - but we will know in 6/12 months. At this juncture we are using the best science we have.
Witty: Responding to criticism of policy - says different opinions are a good thing in science.
