CZ Let's talk solar power. A 1kW solar panel is 5.25sq meters. A house uses 30kW of power per day. That's 30 solar panels per house, or .04 acres of panels. For a block of 25 homes, that's 1 acre of panels.
CZ For a city block, that's 4 house lots of solar panels just to power the rest of the block. That's just one side of the street.
CZ So those acres of solar panels you see in the desert? Barely powers up a single subdivision. Maybe a single apartment building in a downtown. That's it.
CZ That's why solar isn't the future for renewable folks: it uses land very, very inefficiently. Never mind that solar power is DC and doesn't transmit very far. Also, my math assumes *perfect* sunny conditions, every day. Otherwise, the number of panels needs to go up.
CZ Now let's look at wind power. A typical giant windmill you see can, with a steady and good wind speed of 12mph, hit 1.5MW of power (that's megawatts!). Of course, wind speeds and directions vary, so you need multiple turbine facing in different directions to work.
CZ That's potentially an entire neighborhood of homes, with fairly minimal footprint (let's ignore esthetics). Or, more realistically, it's one (1) single business building. All those commercial buildings you see along the highway?
CZ Well, that's a lot of wind turbines required. A lot. In fact, that's one fully spinning turbine per building. So it turns out that's not great, either. You need a bejeezus load of turbines to handle a small town's power demands. So wind isn't that great an option.
CZ Now let's talk nuclear. A single reactor can produce a gigawatt of power. That's a billion watts. And nuclear power plants typically have multiple reactors going in a single campus.
CZ To compare, that's over 3 million solar panels per reactor. That's also more than 800 wind turbines spinning at 1.5MW. Non-nuclear fans probably think I'm making this up. But here's your source: the US Department of Energy.
energy.gov/ne/articles/in…
CZ Note that the wind turbine estimate assumes a turbine is spinning at full speed to do 2.32MW, but on average they're only doing half that, so double that quantity to 800+.
CZ Another minor point: my math assumed 100% perfect solar conditions and sustained average wind speeds of 12mph, all turbines spinning. We know that's never the case; but nuclear produces 1GW of power in ALL conditions.
CZ So while the Biden WH keeps pretending solar and wind are viable options, they're NOT. You want eco-friendly and sustainable power? You go nuclear. It's not even close.
CZ I like solar and wind: they're stupid simple. But they're not reliable, they damage local ecosystems, and are horribly inefficient. They also eat up a lot of land compared to nuclear.
CZ And yes, long-term storage of nuclear waste is not as damaging to the environment as short-term effects of solar and wind, which immediately harm native flora and fauna by making it unusable. Nuke waste is buried deep, causing no issues to anyone.

GP Mrs. P and I played Monopoly when we were newlyweds, alone in mid-Missouri.

We never finished the game and vowed to each other we'd never play it again or speak of the incomplete game we played.

It's the game to play if you want a divorce but not to ask for one directly.
CZ Mandarin is really good at Monopoly, to the point he always wins and is such a bad sport about it that no one, even the wives, will play or discuss it with him.

He's horrible.
GP I have always found Mandarin to be less of an *immediate* threat than you, Czar. Long term, the jury's still out.

I will grant that you have nicer, softer hair than Mandarin.

GP "Representative Sean Patrick Maloney of New York, the chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, said Thursday that keeping the Democratic majority depended on speaking to voters in a way that wasn’t too preachy or condescending."

nytimes.com/2022/03/11/us/…
GP I'd like to note for the record that Democrats are constitutionally unable to speak to voters "in a way that [isn't] too preach or condescending."

They're religious zealots who believe they're doing God's work.
GP "[Bipartisanship] appeared to be the administration’s focus ahead of Mr. Biden's appearance on Friday, as his team worked to highlight positive economic indicators."

Good luck to Team Biden in attempting to con Americans into not believing what they're seeing exists.

GP Massive price increases Democrats' bad energy policies have caused and will cause:

1. Fertilizer
2. Pesticides
3. Manufacturing
4. Metal refining
5. Steel production
6. Trucking
7. Shipping
8. Medicines
9. Medical devices
10. Transportation
11. Food processing

12. Animal feed
13. Animal processing
14. Sowing crops
15. Harvesting crops
16. Home heating and cooling
17. Lumber
18. Plastics
19. Containers, all
20. Construction
21. Mining
22. Paper and pulp
23. Airlines
24. Wages

I'm sure there's tons more, but that's off the top of my head.

Point is, there is really no area of your life that increased energy prices does not affect. Your life is about to get radically more expensive and your quality of life is about to drop precipitously.

GP The Democrats and media have adopted a few (bullshit, IMO) talking points cheering abortion after yesterday's SCOTUS abortion arguments.

They go something like this:

1. Stare decisis must govern!

2. SCOTUS overturning Roe would be pure politics!

1/n
3. SCOTUS didn't even consider Roe and its progeny's viability and undue burden standards as it must!

4. Trump's appointees to SCOTUS are all illegitimate and must recuse!

There are more, but these seem to be where the Democrats and media are settling.

2/n
Dealing with each in order, I state as follows:

1. As Alito (I think) basically said in arguments, "Stare decisis does not require us to keep a shitty decision no matter what the reliance interests are on it." Stare decisis is a guidepost, not a requirement.

CZ Twitter is always full of constitutional law experts.

Today's gonna be great, because the SCOTUS discussions revolve around something NOT IN THE CONSTITUTION.
GP I mean there's totes Constitution related stuff in this case!

Like ... um ... er ...

Well, you know *makes circular hand gestures* all that constitutional stuff over there!
CZ STOP EMANATING IN MY PENUMBRAS, PUTER!

GP Lots of lefties screaming, "You're not pro-life because you're pro-death penalty and you're not for government giving away trillions to people who don't deserve or even need it!"

Lemme 'splain your disconnect.
GP Abortion in the Catholic tradition as well as in many/most Christian traditions (and other faiths) is always wrong because it is the unjustified taking of a purely innocent human life.

Always. Wrong.
GP The death penalty in the Catholic faith (and others) is licit but strongly disfavored. It is permitted in a few narrow circumstances.

The death penalty involves, when properly applied, the *justified* taking of a human life, one which has been adjudged guilty.
