"Right vs left" or "conservative vs liberal" is a strawman argument, even considering the spectrum along which one can exist.
Focusing on that battle keeps you from paying attention to the real one taking place. One that isn't so simple, but perhaps can be best summarized as:
"Authoritarian & non-questioning/non-thinking vs. self-sufficient & skeptical/cynical"
When we think of the extremists of either side, close-mindedness to the point stupidity and "repeating the [insert political wing] talking points" is what comes to mind
The problem is that...
Most people are authoritarian & non-thinking/non-questioning
If you doubt this, try to have a nuanced take about something and consider both sides.
You won't get twice the love for noting the merits of both sides.
You get twice the hate because each side views you as the enemy.
Extremes are easy because they require no thinking.
Humans default to the most energy-efficient configuration, which means the one that requires the least thought or risk for cognitive dissonance.
If you understand and agree with this, you see why we're doomed.

After studying copy and working with many fitness Twitter accounts, I've come to a conclusion that most suspect but perhaps are hoping is just hyperbole:
People don't give a shit about being healthy.
They don't even give a shit about being in shape.
What do they care about?
They care about not getting laid and not being broke.
The first one needs no explanation. People will even accept low quality or a substitute.
That second one is a little depressing when we dig deeper.
I promise, I'm gonna get back to fitness, but this detour is necessary.
People care about being comfortable.
They don't want a lot of money. They don't want a lot of success. They don't even want to develop skills.
They just don't want to work hard. Get rich schemes only work on the lazy, almost by definition.
