This is NOT addressing the issue. This is sweeping it under the carpet. The Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) appointed by the then President @PresRajapaksa in its report (slembassyusa.org/downloads/LLRC…) stated and I quote "the GoSL is duty bound to direct the law
enforcement authorities to take immediate steps to ensure that these allegations are properly investigated into and perpetrators brought to justice" (5.34, p163). It further stated and I quote "a comprehensive approach to address the issue of missing persons should be found as a
matter of urgency as it would otherwise present a serious obstacle to any inclusive and long term process of reconciliation. It is noted that given the past incidents of disappearances from different parts of the country and investigative efforts thereon a special mechanism to
address this issue and deter future occurrences. These recommendations warrant immediate implementation, as these will help address this serious issue, which has arisen in the human rights context and left unimplemented by successive Governments". Obviously Mahinda R. ignored the
recommendations of his Commission. In May 2016, due to international pressure, @ompsrilanka, a permanent body to look into these allegations, was established by the @ParliamentLK. The OMP in its annual report stated and I quote "thee obligation to provide justice is central to
addressing the rights and needs of the missing and the disappeared. Bringing perpetrators of enforced disappearances to justice is not just an essential component of providing remedies to victims and their families but is important for society at large as it can challenge the
systemic impunity which facilitated the crime of disappearance" (parliament.lk/uploads/docume…). It has been almost 6 years since OMP was established. But, it has NOT concluded a single investigation. Now the GoSL moves to grant Rs.100,000 and a land for the families of the disappeared
). Enforced disappearance is considered a continuing offence as long as the perpetrators continue to conceal the fate and the whereabouts of persons who have disappeared and these facts remain unclarified.

When e country is in trouble, what I would expect from e opposition party/coalition is a well-thought-out proposal/plan to overcome e issue (e crackpot Pres. won't even consider it, that is a different story), not a protest to convince yourself that you could become e President
Like many people who attended/observed e protest pointed out it was more of a anti-Gota/Rajapaksa protest as people find it extremely difficult to put food on e table. Yes, Harsha & Eran are making the effort. But as the official opposition it is SJB's duty to present a solution.
And e so called alternative force(s) (JVP/NPP) & other minor parties/coalitions like TNA, can you all just stop being a whiner for a change & present an actionable intervention(s) that could actually help e people? People are dying for a meaningful change, not e usual "either
