THREAD: IRREGULAR PERIOD
A normal menstrual cycle lasts from 21 to 35 days for healthy women, this is not always the case.Irregular periods is common.Research have shown that mostly, girls get their first period when they're between the ages of 10 and 15. The average age is 12.
Of course, being period/free or missing your period may feel blissful but you’ll want to make sure there’s no underlying health issue going. This thread is not meant to scare anyone but to set a reminder and re-evaluate ourselves when it comes to period or missing periods.
A teenager who has only had a few cycles or started her period may go months without her flow after her first period,Your body is functioning well, don’t worry, your hormones still trying to adjust with your period cycle, and your periods will be normal with puberty, give it time.
Not knowing when your period is going to show up or period surprise could be due to a number of different reasons that are ( sometimes) in your control, like stress, biology, contraceptives
and travel but they can also happen because of various health conditions.
FYI: irregular periods does not always account to pregnancy or infertility. Check our flier and continue with the thread. Xx Image
In this thread, I’d share some reasons why you could be experiencing irregular periods or have unexpected flow mid month. While it’s true that you can sometimes randomly miss a period for a reason like stress, you shouldn’t just ignore a long-termed missing period.
Your periods are said to be irregular the length of your menstrual cycle (the gap between your periods starting) keeps changing. In this case, your periods may come early or late.
However, There are two common types of irregular bleeding.
There’s the breakthrough bleeding. This occurs when your period blood or menstruation comes by surprise. when you don’t expect it, for instance in between your normal cycles. Image
The other is not getting to experience your flow for a long time, sometimes for 3-4 months, or not often. You get to missed your normal cycle.
So to start with the breakthrough bleeding. Using contraceptives usually change your usual hormonal cycle, this can cause bleeding between cycles. Switching from one BC to another, or just starting a BC can also leads to your hormones responding & sort out your period differently.
Different types of contraceptives can affect your period cycle in many ways. Some contraceptives are associated with heavy periods, some light periods, some with!amenorrhea.Normally this stop after few months& you can experience normal flow.Otherwise, please seek medical attention
Chronic conditions that can affect your menstrual cycle include or breakthrough bleeding. Like;Thyroids,Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Endometriosis, Ovarian Cyst.
THYROID: A small butterfly-shaped gland in the neck, just in front of the windpipe (trachea). It produces important hormones that support your body functioning for regulating your metabolism.
Hyperthyroidism, which is when your thyroid gland is overactive, can cause light or infrequent menstruation, along with issues like sudden weight loss,, rapid heart rate, increased appetite, and more frequently bowel movements.
PCOS: The exact cause is not clear. Many women with PCOS have insulin resistance & high levels of androgens which can cause more problems with menstrual cycle. And it can cause many of the symptoms of PCOS. Obesity can also increase insulin levels and make PCOS symptoms worse.
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a condition in which the ovaries produce an abnormal amount of androgens, male sex hormones that are usually present in women in small amounts.
The name PCOS defines the numerous small cysts (fluid-filled sacs) that form in the ovaries.Ovulation occurs when a mature egg is released from an ovary. This happens so it can be fertilized by sperm. If the egg doesn’t fertilized, it is sent out of the body during your period.
ENDOMETRIOSIS: feels like they’re grilling your back in the oven or someone is stabbing you in the uterus. You might feel another way when you’ve it. It’s a painful condition causing the lining of your uterus to grow outside the uterus.
Pregnancy is not a cure for endometriosis & being pregnant may provide temporary relief from symptoms but it’s not the cure the condition. Delaying pregnancy is not a cause of endometriosis.
There’s difficulty to diagnose Endometriosis. The only definitive way to know is via laparoscopy by a skilled medical personnel who knows what to look for. 8.5yrs is the average but it can take up to 12 years to get diagnosed. Make sure you deal with a specialist
The financial cost to the world of endometriosis is expensive, similar to that of diabetes. It’s estimated to be about US$10,762 per woman per year. There is no cure for endometriosis. It’s not a rare disease. It affects 10% of reproductive-aged women. That’s 176 million women WW
Endometriosis affects the immune system but it isn’t an autoimmune disease. Although the caused isn’t known, most likely genetics plays a role.
