When I got home this weekend someone asked how things are going in Nashville, I’m not sure they were ready for my answer, but it went kind of like this…
We have a “Don’t Say Gay” bill worse than Florida’s and about 4 more bills to go along with it-all equally filled with hate. GOP and B list celebrities are accusing librarians and teachers of “grooming” kids.
We have a vigilante abortion bill worse than Texas’. A bill that makes your friends and family $10k if they rat you out. Heck, if you decide to abort your rapists baby, his family and friends can sue you for $10k.
Did you ever imagine TN would give more rights to a violent rapist than a victim of a violent rapist. He can choose the mother of his child, but she can’t choose not to have her rapist’s baby. That is pure evil folks. That is today’s GOP, they don’t believe women are equal.
We have a school funding formula that’s not ready for prime time. It takes away local control, doesn’t have details and is more than 50% rule making we won’t see until AFTER the vote. And counties will love the property tax it will inevitably bring in 3-4 years😬. #whenleeisgone
Then there is @GovBillLee State BOE appointee with no public school experience, even evidence he is hostile to public schools. He’s in a lawsuit now as his company sold ammunition to an underage school shooter responsible for the 6th largest school shooting in the country.
You might think that would be it, but we just had a GOP Sen indicted for campaign finance & a Rep indicted for wire fraud-they both resigned. 1 said for “exciting family news”(that’s 1 way to put it.) The other because she was a Christian(a Christian would say no to the felony.)
All signs point to more indictments coming, but all those likely to go down are taken in to the GOP fold. Criming in the GOP makes you leadership it seems. Yet they stand on the floor puffing out their chests screaming at Dems for saying mean things.❄️❄️
Looks like we’re going to visit the whole voucher scandal again and see just who all was involved…I’m pretty sure I know a few of them and they all need to be held accountable. Buying votes that result in hurting our kids is truly evil.
GOP who have left the party have told me it’s because of the meanness. We see it every day in how they govern. While they bring bills making TN tougher for kids, women, black & brown people, teachers, librarians, and LGBTQ folks-they are licking boots of lobbyists & billionaires.
Here is why there is hope, the Democrats care about all Tennesseans. They care about equality, equity, justice, fairness, and we are fighting for it! We are fighting for you, and here is some of the legislation we have brought this session.
More money for teachers and other school salaries. Bills for more social workers and school nurses. Bills to bring smaller class sizes, end corporal punishment and address students mental health.
Bills to reform cannabis-medical, legalization, decriminalization. Bills to lower insulin cost.
Bills for Paid Family Leave, Child Care, kids in DCS custody, DCS workers, and bills to raise the wage.
Calling for sales tax relief on gas during this time of high gas prices, grocery sales tax relief for TN families.
Bills for real criminal justice reform, not just the usual one step forward and 2 steps back we get from the GOP. There are more, but it’s getting late.
Of course the supermajority can stop every one of our bills in committee—or sometimes steal them. But we will keep pushing for TN families and we need you to spread the word about who is in Nashville fighting for the kitchen table issues that make life better for your family.
Make your vote count, vote for kindness, justice, and TN families. #VoteDemocratic
As many national folks are reading this, I want to explain the “voucher felonies.” During a vote on vouchers that take public tax 💵 from public schools, our disgraced former speaker held the board open for 45 minutes while he tried to convince/bribe folks to change their vote.
He offered the rank of General to a Colonel in the National Guard. Rep. Windle said no to the rank, refusing to sell out his district and vote yes. We now have a GOP rep who spoke as a witness. Only the Gov can give this rank. I hope all involved are held accountable.

I think my tweet about TN government resonated with many, thanks so much for sharing it and for the follows! I live in a beautiful state with a lot of beautiful people who care deeply about their neighbors, sadly that is not what our supermajority is reflecting back.
It seems true that absolute power corrupts absolutely. I got to hear from so many in other states feeling the same as we are in TN. #Solidarity to all of us as we push back! I don’t know how it works in every state, but I have some ideas for TN.
🚨YOUR VOTE MATTERS! Please never feel that your vote won’t make a difference, it absolutely can, especially if everyone who feels as you do votes!

🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨This week's action alert is a bill on vouchers!
We need your help again this week on a new education bill. This time it is addressing vouchers. Please contact members to oppose bill HB2861 on Tuesday in the House K12 Subcommittee.
When the TN Legislature passed the education savings account voucher bill in 2019 it applied to only Nashville and Memphis schools. The courts have declared this is unconstitutional because state laws must apply statewide.

🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨ACTION ALERT on privatizing public schools
HB2833/SB2168
HB2833/SB2168 will be heard by the House Education Instruction Subcommittee on Tuesday, Feb 15th. The bill makes it easier for charter operators to obtain authorization and it provides grants and subsidies to charter schools that are not available to traditional public schools.
It does nothing to improve the educational experiences of students. I repeat, this does nothing to improve the educational experience of students-it does, however, allow venture capitalists an opportunity to profit off our kids.

Interesting, these folks are hiring for a Charter School that Knox County Schools hasn’t seen an application for according to a Knox BOE member. What sort of shenanigans are team PennyLee up to with this one? It’s the one Candace Owens visited in Chattanooga. All boys?
The folks involved attended the Lee/DeVos “sell our public schools for parts” meeting tn.chalkbeat.org/2019/4/2/21055…
They have one in Chattanooga, fb.watch/b6OQmcYSEV/

TN, we need educated people who understand what freedom means up here every day and attend every committee meeting. The Gov Ops meeting today on education rules ended up about banning accurate history, punishing teachers & school systems for teaching facts. It was frightening.
Most of my colleagues across the aisle believe freedom means you believing the same things they do. They do not believe in freedom of thought. Good education terrifies them.
They think there are “nice” ways to teach slavery so kids don’t feel bad. Teachers teach facts, not feelings. This is authoritarian BS. You can’t legislate feelings…yet here they go. Be afraid of these GOP extremists.

Sedition, a thread👇🏼
So seems most of you missed HJR9005 calling for sedition in the pro-Covid special session. It was sponsored by the Speaker and Rep Ragan ran the bill in committee and on the floor. I’m pretty shocked the press didn’t notice this resolution calling for sedition, but here we are.
I will spare you the entire reading of the seditious resolution and the rant against people who care about their neighbors after it, so here are some excerpts. It’s hard to sedition when you argue revisionist history.🙄
