I think my tweet about TN government resonated with many, thanks so much for sharing it and for the follows! I live in a beautiful state with a lot of beautiful people who care deeply about their neighbors, sadly that is not what our supermajority is reflecting back.
It seems true that absolute power corrupts absolutely. I got to hear from so many in other states feeling the same as we are in TN. #Solidarity to all of us as we push back! I don’t know how it works in every state, but I have some ideas for TN.
🚨YOUR VOTE MATTERS! Please never feel that your vote won’t make a difference, it absolutely can, especially if everyone who feels as you do votes!
State House and Senate reps should be able to meet with their constituents, build a relationship with them. Research them a bit before you meet them, try to find something they voted on that you like and mention that.
Tell them the issues you care about and ask them to support those issues. Call or email them when issues come up that you care about. Do the same when you disagree with a vote they made. Let them know you are paying attention and you vote-this can make a difference.
When you are calling or meeting your reps, organize with friends and others of like mind to do the same. To some this may seem basic, but to new folks just getting involved, it can be daunting.
I know in TN, rural organizing is a critical need, but we need to train folks in those areas to organize there. People need to hear from a local voice what Democrats are doing for working folks. We can do this, we have the right message.
Write an op-ed or letter to the editor in your paper about how your leadership isn’t fighting for working families, but instead spending all their time on divisive and hateful legislation. Organize friends and neighbors to do the same.
Run for office or volunteer for someone who is running. I never thought of running until learning to organize through @BarackObama campaign. If you care deeply about your community and know the kitchen table issues they face, run and speak to those issues.
Point out that the current leadership is not bringing legislation that helps their families or voting for legislation that makes their lives better. Also point out where the majority of their campaign donations come from-corporations and lobbyists.
As Democrats, our campaigns require lots of personal contact-door knocks and phone calls. You won’t likely change someone’s mind with a mail piece, but you will on their doorstep talking about the issues they care about.
Also, always speak truth to power, people see that and want to see more-we need more! Sure, I get targeted for telling the truth about colleagues across the aisle, but as long as you tell the truth, voters on both sides of the aisle will respect it-whether they admit it or not 😉
If you are anywhere in TN and want to get involved (many already have reached out) please do, reach out and I will try to connect you with folks in your area!
So let’s get out there and make the midterms count-for your county, state, and the country! If you don’t have a D on the ballot for State House or Senate, you have until April 7, voters need a choice! #Solidarity

When I got home this weekend someone asked how things are going in Nashville, I’m not sure they were ready for my answer, but it went kind of like this…
We have a “Don’t Say Gay” bill worse than Florida’s and about 4 more bills to go along with it-all equally filled with hate. GOP and B list celebrities are accusing librarians and teachers of “grooming” kids.
We have a vigilante abortion bill worse than Texas’. A bill that makes your friends and family $10k if they rat you out. Heck, if you decide to abort your rapists baby, his family and friends can sue you for $10k.

🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨This week's action alert is a bill on vouchers!
We need your help again this week on a new education bill. This time it is addressing vouchers. Please contact members to oppose bill HB2861 on Tuesday in the House K12 Subcommittee.
When the TN Legislature passed the education savings account voucher bill in 2019 it applied to only Nashville and Memphis schools. The courts have declared this is unconstitutional because state laws must apply statewide.

🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨ACTION ALERT on privatizing public schools
HB2833/SB2168
HB2833/SB2168 will be heard by the House Education Instruction Subcommittee on Tuesday, Feb 15th. The bill makes it easier for charter operators to obtain authorization and it provides grants and subsidies to charter schools that are not available to traditional public schools.
It does nothing to improve the educational experiences of students. I repeat, this does nothing to improve the educational experience of students-it does, however, allow venture capitalists an opportunity to profit off our kids.

Interesting, these folks are hiring for a Charter School that Knox County Schools hasn’t seen an application for according to a Knox BOE member. What sort of shenanigans are team PennyLee up to with this one? It’s the one Candace Owens visited in Chattanooga. All boys?
The folks involved attended the Lee/DeVos “sell our public schools for parts” meeting tn.chalkbeat.org/2019/4/2/21055…
They have one in Chattanooga, fb.watch/b6OQmcYSEV/

TN, we need educated people who understand what freedom means up here every day and attend every committee meeting. The Gov Ops meeting today on education rules ended up about banning accurate history, punishing teachers & school systems for teaching facts. It was frightening.
Most of my colleagues across the aisle believe freedom means you believing the same things they do. They do not believe in freedom of thought. Good education terrifies them.
They think there are “nice” ways to teach slavery so kids don’t feel bad. Teachers teach facts, not feelings. This is authoritarian BS. You can’t legislate feelings…yet here they go. Be afraid of these GOP extremists.

Sedition, a thread👇🏼
So seems most of you missed HJR9005 calling for sedition in the pro-Covid special session. It was sponsored by the Speaker and Rep Ragan ran the bill in committee and on the floor. I’m pretty shocked the press didn’t notice this resolution calling for sedition, but here we are.
I will spare you the entire reading of the seditious resolution and the rant against people who care about their neighbors after it, so here are some excerpts. It’s hard to sedition when you argue revisionist history.🙄
