NSians need to know that protesting disagreement of the extension of mandatory masking in schools by interfering in the safe & orderly operations of their local community school is reckless & misguided. #nspoli#nsed /1
Your child’s teachers & school staff have made ZERO decisions about public health orders in schools.
Government & Public Health have. Full stop. /2
If you disagree, vocalize that constructively by contacting your MLA & the Public Health office. They can & should listen to your RESPECTFULLY conveyed concerns. They control the decisions you contest, so take it up WITH them. /3
But don’t treat your neighbourhood school as a picket site or convoy target. Students & staff deserve safe, non-threatening places to learn & work. Respect that as a responsible, caring citizen- this should be self-evident & sacrosanct. /4
If any @NSTeachersUnion member feels unsafe because of anti-mask activity at their site, advise your principal & staff officer immediately. Our students don’t process threat or danger the way we can. Use your resources if needed. /5
This should be a wonderful day of seeing our students after a well deserved break. It’s unfortunate we need to be vigilant in this way, but let’s be level headed & proactive in support of our students & colleagues & make today as positive as possible. /6
Stay safe & enjoy the return to classes with your students & peers! Thank you for everything you continue to do to support students, families & community in these strange times- you continue to shine! ❤️🏆💪/end

For those who ask, "what specifically needs to be improved when it comes to @nseducation's reopening plan?", I offer the following considerations/general state of school readiness 10 days before schools open:
Despite $50 million in new federal funding, no announcements to lower class sizes & fully physically distance (the gold standard measure of COVID-19 prevention globally) students has been hinted, much less made
Despite $50 million in new federal funding, masking in P-3, where classroom dimensions & class group sizes make physical distancing impossible across the province, is not yet mandatory
Give these folks time to determine a way forward that could well mean having to retract communication & planning to parents & students you put out before break is over. /2
We know you care deeply & want to do the best by your kiddos. We get it. Nonetheless, please press pause & WAIT for instruction so our efforts are aligned & support one another in every RCE/CSAP & community.
We don't need competition right now. Collaboration & unity is key. /3
