In order for the African Union to be truly independent in security matters,it needs to have its own military capability. The Nigeria Algeria South Africa Ethiopia Defence Pact (G-4) is designed to be the Guardian of Africa. An African rapid response military force.
We need a force able to respond to imminent threats or quickly react to a crises situation or a stabilization operation anywhere in Africa. The shortcomings of the African Union in this regard means anytime there is a security situation of strategic proportions
external powers .e.g France is obliged to make move and reinforce its presence on the continent. Nigeria, South Africa, Egypt, Kenya, Algeria and Ethiopia are the few African militaries that can make rapid deployments independently. The Kenyans have done so with Somalia.
Nigeria has a history of intervention in West Africa. South Africa, Algeria and Ethiopia all have expeditionary military capabilities. Algeria and South Africa have submarines . South Africa is also home to the continent's most advanced defence corporations.
But these are outliers. The AU on its own is not able to guarantee the security of all AU member states. Libya was an AU member state when it was bombed to smithereens by NATO. Today it is under U.S, French, Turkish and Russian
..occupation. Turkey once threatened Egypt with consequences should it interfere in Libya. We need an African Deterrence Initiative with the continent's most capable militaries fusing their capabilities to create the security component of the African Union.
If Libya was not bombed and taken over by militants, Africa would not have overtaken the middle east to become the Global Harvard for terrorism. The looted weapons from Gadaffi's stockpile of armoury fuelled terrorism on an industrial scale in Africa.
In the air Algeria combat aircraft fleet compromises SU-30s, SU-24, MiG-29s and MiG-35. Ethiopia has the SU-27 and MiG-23. South Africa has the JAS 39 Griffins and Nigeria has the JF-17 and F-7Ni fighters.
Algerian and South African navy submarines will be the undersea component of this force. Nigeria's Falcon Eye Surveillance System can provide effective electronics tracking of vessels with the continent's maritime enviroment.
Will this be sufficient to protect Africa from external aggression? Perhaps. Africa is only as strong as its weakest members and Francophone Africa is the continent's Achilles heel. Look how easy it took Macron to hijack and sabotage the ECOWAS Single Currency Initiative.
..or how easy Macron basically threatened the continent when the AU threatened sanctions against Chad if the junta does not hand over power to civilian parliament after Idris Debys demise, destroying any hope of the Chadian people joining the committee of democratic nations
..and the firing of Arikana Chihomburi by the AU Chairman over her speech critiquing the draconian policy of Colonial Tax imposed by Paris own 14 francophone states.

The deterrence that the G-4 is capable of championing is the only real protection they will have

Nigeria is in a good position to capitalise on the current state of affairs in Europe and expand its market beyond Africa by pursuing gas trade opportunities and secure lucrative enemy markets.
Nigeria is Africa's largest gas producer with an estimated 200.4 trillion cubic ft of proven natural gas reserves. Stated in a previous thread is the recent MOU between Nigeria, Niger and Algeria for the Trans-Saharan Natural Gas Pipeline, spanning over 4,138 kilometres.
Just last year Nigeria and Morocco signed an agreement to revive the Nigeria Morroco Gas Pipeline Project.

Europe is on the cusp of having a fast detox of its over reliance on Russian oil. The U.S has never really been dependent on Russian energy. As of this writing America is the biggest oil producer in the world, producing a staggering 12.6 million bpd. More than Saudi Arabia.
The EU however is in a mess. They just announced they will cut gas imports from Russia by 2/3 this year. EU countries rely on Russian gas to heat homes, run factories and fuel cars. Germany itself gave up on nuclear energy in its entirety years ago.
To avert economic collapse, oil and gas previously delivered from Russia need to be sourced elsewhere. Russia supplies 1/3 of Europe's crude oil imports and 90% of the gas used in the EU.

There 70,000 Cameroonian refugees in Nigeria the world doesn't seem to care about. Around 60 Cameroonian soldiers recently invaded the villages of Mairogo and Tosso, harassing and intimidating their inhabitants, refugees in Nigeria.
In January 2022, Cameroonian soldiers invaded Mairogo, warning residents they will be back and torching homes.

In February 2022 Cameroonian soldiers again invaded Mairogo. They severely beat several residents, and arrested and took with them four young people..
In 2017 Zacharia Okana, a political opponent of the regime of President Paul Biya fled Cameroon in 2017 for fear of arrest. He should be safe in Nigeria right?

In September 2020 Cameroonian gendarmes stormed the border town of Ikom and illegally arrested him...

There is news making the rounds in mainstrean media that Nigeria is paying the cost of the sudden interruption of weapons imports from Russia. One wonders if this just preying on the limited knowledge of some Nigerians in the global arms industry or just genuine ignorance.
The bulk of Nigeria's arms procurement in the last decade has been with China, Pakistan, Turkey, France, Italy and Czech Republic. Russia accounts for less than 5% of Nigeria's arms import. Let's start from the navy.
Our most modern corvette, NNS Unity and NNS Centenary are from China.

Nigerian politicians are simply amazing smh. Weeks after Nigeria was removed from the list of piracy prone nations by the International Maritime Bureau, the House of Representatives is investigating the legality of the $195 million Deep Blue Contract for the supply
..of certain security and surveillance equipments.

In a six year span Nigeria went from being the piracy capital of the world, to having one of the safest maritime domain in the world made possible by a combination of sea, air and land based assets. Just to name a few:
Two Special Mission Aircaft from Israel.
