Aslanbek is a private entrepreneur and the sole breadwinner in the family and together with Dania they are raising a 2-year-old daughter. Dania Bekturganova is currently pregnant. @USRepKeating @RepGregoryMeeks @SenatorCollins
Aslanbek had taken part in peaceful protests and urged against pogroms.
On 9 January 2022, four SOBR officers and one civilian detained Aslanbek Omarov from his workplace, put him in a car and took him to the police. @SenatorRisch @RonWyden
SOBR officers started beating Aslanbek in the car, kicking him and using rifle butts. At the police station he was also beaten on his body and head, as a result of which his kidneys were punctured and he had bruises on his head. @LindseyGrahamSC
For a fortnight Aslanbek's wife, Denmark, was unable to see him as the police cited quarantine, when in fact they were waiting for the battering to pass. The government lawyer, reported that Aslanbek was badly beaten. @MarshaBlackburn @SenJohnBarrasso
On 26 January 2022, Aslanbek was transferred to the SIZO on the basis of an open political criminal case under Article 272 Part 1 ("organisation of mass disorder"). @SenToddYoung @senrobportman @SenThomTillis
Dania Bekturganova tried to access video footage from the police department where her husband was beaten, but was told that the video no longer existed - it had been removed. A forensic examination did not confirm the beatings. @SenatorWicker
This implies that the authorities want to cover up the beatings, leaving the officers who took part in the beatings, who knew about it and who did nothing, unpunished. @SenToomey @SenCoryGardner @lisamurkowski
It is worth recalling that on 16 March 2022, Tokayev said that the authorities had acknowledged the facts of torture in Kazakhstan after the January protests, and had ordered a thorough investigation and that torture must be eradicated at the root.
It appears that in this case, as in others, there is no thorough investigation and no prosecution of those responsible. This means that Tokayev's words and statements about political reforms are a fiction, an empty sound. @SenatorBraun @SenRickScott
On 6 January 2022, Ruslan #Zhubanazarov went to a peaceful protest and did not take part in the pogroms. Ruslan was shot dead on the morning of 7 January 2022. The parents are not given a medical certificate as to the cause of Ruslan's death.
Ruslan's family could not receive Ruslan's body for almost a month. Nurotan staff called Ruslan's father offering help, but later Nurotan and Akimat staff told Ruslan's father not to look for the cause of Ruslan's death. @eu_eeas @MalinBjork_EU
Courts in Kazakhstan like a bolt from the blue
24 March 2022 #Astana
Human rights activist and former political prisoner Aidar #Syzdykov received a phone call from lawyer Almira #Saparova informing him that there would be a trial on 25 March.
At the same time, the lawyer who called refused to take Aydar's case. State lawyers refuse to protect civil society.
Aydar Syzdykov is going to write a complaint against the court. @MSimecka
On 4 March 2022, the Institute of Forensic Examinations for Almaty Oblast of the Ministry of Justice of Kazakhstan concluded that Azamat Batyrbaev, who was beaten and tortured with an iron, sustained light injuries. @HeidiHautala
Despite the fact that doctors had previously diagnosed concussion and extensive burns. In this way, the authorities want to soften the criminal case of torture so that all those responsible for the torture will receive lenient sentences.
23 March 2022 #Aktobe
Civil activist, Tokhtar Zhumabekuly, born 1993, is illegally prosecuted for the second time on political grounds under Article 78 Part 2 for his participation in the protests in the city of Aktobe in January 2022. #NotTerrorists
Tokhtar sustained a gunshot wound and luckily survived. He received medical treatment at the BSMS.
Tokhtar is the only breadwinner for his parents and he is seeking help from international organisations. #Kazakhstan#KazakhstanProtests @hildevautmans
To protect his rights, not to allow the Kazakh authorities to ruin his life, as has been done to many victims of the January events. #ProtestJanuary2022
On 6 January 2022, at about 10 a.m., he was taken away by six unknown persons. An investigation is now underway where he is suspected under Article 269 part of the Criminal Code. He is accused of allegedly being at the airport and "stopping" planes.
23 March 2022 #Aktobe
Civic activist Serik #Zhumabaev is being prosecuted by Kazakh authorities for his participation in protests in January, specifically a 7 January 2022 rally in the city of Aktobe. #NotTerrorists#Kazakhstan @EUSR_CA @TerhiHakala
The beating went on for a long time, hitting on the head and torturing with a stun gun. Next, Serik lost consciousness.
When he woke up, he asked for water, but instead of water the police beat him a couple more times. #KazakhstanProtests @EP_President
