#1 - Hospitality is timeless
Despite massive change, the hospitality industry has stood the test of time.

The metaverse may make meetings more convenient some day, but will never replace the feeling of sun on your face, sand in your toes. Experiencing beautiful design and architecture. Getting to know a new city with others.
#2 - Hospitality offers many ways to create value and beat the market
More than most real estate investments, hospitality is an operating business that presents unique opportunities.

Value can be created through imaginative concepts. @citizenM did this with urban hotels. @21cHotels did this with art. @imrichardfertig is doing this with Edgecamp Sporting Club.
Value can be created through marketing. I saw this time and again running the #1 hotel marketing blog in the world 2007-2012. Hospitality is evocative, and offers rich storytelling opportunities.
Value can be created through operational excellence. This has been the biggest learning for me. Working with hotel brands and watching them succeed based on how well they’re run. Happy guests mean more word of mouth, and that gets amplified online.
My understanding of this only increased as an investor, watching people like Nick Huber @sweatystartup build incredible businesses in other types of commercial real estate through excellent operations.
#3 Hospitality presents dynamic pricing opportunities
I saw this during my time at @DuettoCloud, a leading hotel revenue management system. Technology can capture demand and benefit both the owner and the guest.

From an economic perspective it’s beautiful. You don't have to leave any value on the table.
