A camera shop was targeted in a robbery Mon around 4pm.
โ
3 people enter, 1 uses a hammer to smash a glass case.
โ
A store employee approaches, gets pepper sprayed (1/4)
Employees of a neighboring biz attempt to fight off the suspects using a stool & sign.
One is also hit with pepper spray while another hit with a hammer.
โ
My photojournalist colleague who was there shortly after says the getaway vehicle was on Clay Street. (2/4)#StopAAPIHate
Those nearby say police were on the scene quickly & searched extensively but the suspects had already left.
โ
SFPD says anyone with info should call: 415-575-4444
โ
These are photos taken yesterday. The man hit w/the hammer suffered serious injuries. (3/4) #StopAsianHate
Note: Chinatowns across the country (& worldโฆI recently read Sydneyโs Chinatown is struggling) have been fighting the pandemic of COVID & hate the past couple years. As these crimes continue to happen I sometimes wonder how these small businesses are going to survive. (4/4)

A man who asked to be IDโd only as Kevin told me he was fed up watching a shoplifter in action at a Walgreens in Alameda 3/19.
โ
He tackled the suspectโฆ(1/4)
Kevin yells for bystanders to call 9-1-1 as he struggles on the ground with the man for more than 2 mins.
The suspect calls out to a friend over and over & suddenly a car pulls up and a man approaches the store.
Kevin gets put in a headlock & thatโs when heโฆ(2/4) #BayArea
โpicked him up by the groin & threw him to the ground.โ
โ
Kevin loses his shoes in the struggle & both suspects run to the getaway car nearby.
โ
Alameda Police say intervening opens you up to litigation & poss charges if the suspect is arrested. They donโt recommend jumping in
I spoke to this 70-year old Chinese woman tonight. She was robbed of her purse Saturday around 7:30pm.
โ
This happened in the parking lot of a senior living facility in Oakland. (1/4) #StopAAPIHate#StopAsianHate
The suspect approaches her, grabs her purse, whips her around & wrestles w/her on the ground.
โ
The victim told me in Mandarin she thinks she was targeted because she's Asian & is afraid to go out after learning about crimes in Chinatown & other areas. #StopAsianHate (2/4)
Her hands scraped the pavement but otherwise she is not too physically hurt.
โ
She had no Chas but lost her credit cards. The Oakland Chinatown Improvement Council is providing translation for to her since she needs assistance getting those cards replaced. (3/4) #StopAAPIHate
Here is a small sample of videos people from around the Bay Area send me.
1. This is a car break-in from around 8:30 last night at the 99 Ranch in Cupertino. A man captured this break-in on his Teslaโs camera. He had nothing in the car trunk. (1/4) #BayArea
2. A woman in Pacific Heights was fed up w/all of the crime/thefts at her home/neighborhood so she installed a Ring camera.
This is who she found Sunday, taking items from her property. You can get the woman say โGive all of that stuff back. Go.โ (2/4) #SanFrancisco
The woman was also seen doing this on Elizabethโs property. (It was a video but obviously too graphic to shareโฆso I made it into a still and put a censor on it. You get the idea.)
Elizabeth also says a bag was stolen from her porch several days earlier. #SanFrancisco (3/4)
Police tell me 46-y/o Stephen Miller was arrested. This is the mess he left.
Karla says โIโd like to see SF be the amazing place I know it can be. It was when I was growing upโฆhow about we donโt let someone back on the street who is extremely dangerous?โ #SanFrancisco

This is fake jewelry thieves are handing to seniors across the Bay Area, SoCal & Sacramento area to distract them as theyโre getting robbed of their real jewelry.
This fake stuff was given to a 59-year old disabled woman in San Jose before the suspect took her gold chain. (1/4)
Many of the victims (10 known ones in San Ramon) according to @SanRamonPolice are SE Asian. Many victims donโt report to PD.
One victim according to @SantaClaraPD was a 90-year old non-Asian woman who was taken for $40,000 in jewelry!
(This vid is an 82-y/o Chinese Vic in SJ.)
San Ramon police say the perps appear to be made of people f/Eastern Europe.
They call this a slight-of-hand crime b/c the suspect hugs or approaches the victim & it takes only a few secs to undo a necklace.
Many victims like this one in SR donโt realize itโs happening. (4/5)
