@Irek_K Saw what you said regarding the Canada Disability Benefit today. Why are the Liberals being so tight-lipped regarding this benefit? You speak about its urgency, but you've yet to reveal details regarding eligibility, amounts, or even a timeline.
Disabled Canadians & Families of those with #pwd cannot afford to wait 3 years for the "consultation" you wanted to do in the 2021 Budget. Has that study even fully started, by the way? You brought up the DIAP again, is that part of the study or a separate thing?
In addition, you mention how this will help "hundreds of thousands". When you have around 40% of 6 MILLION Canadians living with a disability in poverty, hearing that this might go to so few scares me as a Disabled Canadian, despite the fact I'm currently "able" enough to work.
In addition, why is the benefit seemingly only for Disabled Canadians of "working age"? Given it seems Carla would like to get more Disabled Canadians working, why not have it be that disabled children under 18 would see that money go directly into an RDSP?
The reason I ask that is that then, you'd be giving those Disabled Canadian kids funding to cover tuitions for post-secondary programs they can actually do.
And how about our disabled seniors? Why wouldn't they be "eligible" for this benefit?
Now, I could take the time to write you an email, discuss my current situation even more, and how I see and understand how many are trapped on programs like #ODSP, #AISH, #SAID, #EIA.... and federal programs like #CPPD. And I will be writing one out in addition to this Tweet.
However, I figured I'd post this up here on Twitter as I knew my fellow canadians that follow me and advocate just as strongly would see this, and hope for some answers.
And those are just a few I'm tagging, many of which I want to see live steady and meaningful lives rather than just scrape by.
I get wanting to work with the provinces so they understand the need for this benefit and don't use it as an excuse to claw back on current supports.
But at the very least, being open with us on what's going on, giving us a time frame on the benefit itself, and having us be able to provide you feedback would be greatly appreciated. At least, I'd like to see what the DIAP results told you.
Either way, I hope you have a good night, and that we can get the ball rolling on this matter very soon, and get this legislation passed before those 3 years are up.
You have a great night.
Adding a follow-up tweet here, with the discussion clipped, for those that care to listen to Mike's & Irek's words.
