#SeditionHunters - it's hours-old news by now, but just to remind everyone that Paul Manafort, the Trump/Ukraine fixer who just tried to flee to Dubai today (following last week's exodus of oligarchs there) ... organized the January 6th rally at the Ellipse. 1/
Manafort's connection to the Capitol attack, and his 2 decades of operations in Ukraine, are detailed in our "VIP timeline" of events leading up to Jan 6. Trump pardoned Manafort on Dec. 23; within a week his company stepped in to manage the rally. 2/

Manafort tried to fly from Miami to Dubai today on a revoked passport, and was physically removed from the plane. The invasion of Ukraine has clarified how the Jan 6 attack of the US Capitol had long roots and foreign connections. 3/

Why would Manafort flee now? The walls are cracking, people are beginning to talk. Today Trump pulled his endorsement of Mo Books (1st Ellipse speaker on Jan 6); Brooks then released a statement saying Trump had asked him to "rescind the 2020 election." (via @MacFarlaneNews) 4/
Remember: the Jan 6 attack involved many different interests. Trump and his enablers. Grifters happy to ride any bandwagon. Deluded normies riled up by social media. And darker ones: domestic actors with practical power plans. International actors bent on weakening the US. 5/
Prosecuting Jan 6 is complicated by this tangle of interests. (Read about some of them here.) It should become clear soon: we owe a debt to the officers who defended our Capitol on Jan 6 - but also to the Ukrainians defending their Capitol now. 6/

CORRECTION: Manafort tried to flee the U.S. on Sunday, March 20, not Wednesday, March 23 (h/t @Tingleld for catching the mistake). So his attempted exit was only 3 days after the Mar. 17 private-jet Flight of the Oligarchs to Dubai. 8/

#SeditionHunters - the second J6 trial has just ended, first for a #SeditionVIP: Couy Griffin, leader of Cowboys for Trump, guilty on one count. Only a misdemeanor but sets an important precedent: VIPs who entered Capitol Grounds face some consequences. 1/

Griffin climbed over downed barricades up the W. lawn, and to the Lower W. Terrace, filmed himself ca. 3:30 PM with the crowd behind. Judge McFadden agreed that this is "entering the grounds of a building that were restricted due to the presence of a Secret Service protectee." 2/
These first 2 trials set important precedents for J6 perps who stayed outside the Capitol building. Guy Reffitt: violent perps can be guilty of obstruction. Couy Griffin: Pence was in the Capitol, so self-promoting celebrities touring the grounds committed a serious offense. 3/

The Daily Beast article by @stevanzetti says about Macias and his sidekick Antonio Lamotta, "There is no evidence either of them entered the Capitol building." But there IS evidence. For 7 months there has been evidence. What can we do to convince you? 2/

#SeditionHunters - AUSAs and judges seem increasingly aware of / annoyed by fake statements of remorse by Capitol defendants. Here's a nice blow-by-blow of the sentencing today for a relatively minor perp, James Bonet: 90 days in jail, twice what prosecutors had requested. 1/
Also, a new arrest today of an old perp: #ChairGuy (#FBI107), one of the first to be hashtagged, is Ralph Celentano from Queens, NY. Among others assaults, he knocked an officer over a railing in the chaos as the W. Plaza was finally overtaken. 2/

Celentano aka #ChairGuy doesn't seem to have militia connections or links to leadership on January 6 - radicalized individuals committed the worst assaults of the Capitol attack. 3/

Tarrio wasn't in DC on the 6th because he was arrested for an old offense, told to leave. That arrest has always been odd. We know Jan 6 was green-lit the night of Dec. 18th. Just before, Tarrio reached out to multiple media outlets to confess a crime...2/
