Hey @chicagotribune & @TedSlowik1, the "Ten Shared Principles", like Mitchell Davis alludes to, is window dressing. We’ve seen how it plays out in our communities.

When @Nilespdil were menacing the community with their thin blue line face masks they were also signing onto the Ten Shared Principles. We objected and met with @ilpolicechiefs in good faith. They seemed amenable to helping but ultimately ghosted us. nwscoalition.com/open_letter_ni…
Black people were telling Ed the thin blue line wasn’t cool. Heck, even white Niles cop Nick Beyer could see how the thin blue line went against the Ten Shared Principles. (Nick later blew the whistle on Niles cops and lost his job) cdn.muckrock.com/foia_files/202…

The Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police’s “Ten Shared Principles” can’t even deal with the most basic challenge of a simple symbol. What hope does it have to “replace mistrust with mutual trust wherever, whenever and however possible” in any community? It won't.
This along with schemes like the “Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program” act to perpetuate the obsolete and archaic system of oppression that is policing and prisons.
Ed Wojcicki of the @ILPoliceChiefs visited @VNilesIL last night (3-22-2022) to present the @Nilespdil their manufactured accreditation scheme. We showed up to share our experience with this org and their projects.
